Gauging interest: GB on Hella Horn (Made in Germany) Kit

When are we going to be able to pick these up?

oh and does anyone know how to wire these up to only fire after i've held my horn down for a while. it's a random thought and don't know the feasibility. what i'm thinking is maintaining the stock horn for polite beeps and then hold down and it will go to WTF R U DOING!

 

I would just have to separate horn buttons than...lol :crazy:

 

Or a timer circuit. Would not be too hard to build one. Tons of schematics of timing circuits on the web.

not enough power to drive the horns directly, but I'm sure you can find bigger on-delay relays out there, or just use a small one to signal the hella relay.

The horns aren't driven directly anyway. There is a switch/relay that takes the signal from your horn switch and then sends full 12v power from the battery to the horns. You would likely be able to vampire splice off one of the wires leading to the existing horns and then wire through a time-delay switch to the Hella relay. The only problem I can think of is fitting all 4 horns inbetween your grill and radiator - you might have to move one of the regular horns to make way for the beautiful Hellas.

me too....... on the paying cash thing... also we should get a group buy on whatever relay we need to have them installed... would have a night at my shop to install them if people wanted...

 

The kit should include a relay. It's just the time-delayed relays that would cost extra, but I'm guessing most people wouldn't want those.

Anyone have a db meter? It'd be interesting to have one at the install night. I'd like to see if we can measure the difference between the hella relay and the stock relay. I think the stock relay should be big enough to push the hellas if the stock horns are disconnected... it'd be interesting to test. At least on my car I have a 15amp fuse for the horn, so the relay is probably more than that, and I think the supertones will pull 12amps.

You will need:
14 gauge wire
Electrical tape
Male and female disconnects
Ring terminals
2 bolts and nuts (my 06 used 1/4- 3/4)
dielectric grease

Not required but good to have:
Fuse holder and 20amp fuse
wire loom

 

Also good to have:
soldering iron and solder
wire stripper
zip ties (for securing the wires you run)
heat shrink

I put some hella horns on my truck, louder than stock, but they dont sound like the hella horns on my wrx. Not sure why?

I am in! I just had someone cut me off, slam on brakes, then turn left and halfway thru the turn they put their turn signal on. honked my horn and said OMG I have got to replace my horn... then see this thread, WIERD! so yeah, order me a set, ILL PM you too.
