So, I'm wondering if I'm getting into something over my head or not worth the pain.

I'm thinking it would look nice to have HID's on the 01 Impreza. After much research (while @ work, of course) it seems retrofitting projectors into stock halogen housings might be the way to go.

I found a set of new, clear GC8 headlights and foglights for sale and was thinking that would give me all the time in the world to work on it while keeping the car drivable until it's ready for the swap.

    Couple ?'s.

How's $330 for new in box headlights and fog lights with bulbs and harnesses?

Has anyone here done a retrofit for a GC8 that might be willing to help or at least tell me how much of a b***ch it actually ends up being to do?

Anyone got a good suggestion on projectors & ballasts to get? Seems getting OEM's for other models is popular and that most 3rd party sets are cr*p. Anyone wanna voice their opinion on that?

Ideally, I'd do it right and have low & high beams, but I'm willing to consider doing just lows if it's much less cost/hassle.

And what about HID fogs? Is that just silly or no?

From what I hear, Philips OEM HID kits are the ones to go with (D2S bulbs I think?). As far as what projector to use, it depends on what you can fit in there, you'll have to take some measurements first. If you want Hi/Lo, you should look for a BiXenon OEM unit, I think there were quite a few options from Inifniti for this sort of thing. If you're going to do a retrofit, just go ahead and go full-boat.

    HID fogs are silly.

Thanks for the info. How do you like them? Any troubles getting a good beam pattern? Know if your glare to other drivers is under control?

EDIT: Wait, did you buy these: http://www.hondasuv.com/members/showthread.php?p=319268 ??? Same pic. (gotta love Google)

When you have the lower cover on the 9003 bulbs (H4), it seems to help keep the glare/splash down. The XenonRider kit made a great pattern on my ZZR.

just buy morrettes. You can get a used pair from someone on RS25.com for ~$400 and *gasp* they're actually designed for you car, no retro-fit.

a guy on nasioc can do the retrofitting for u for a pretty high price, but he does a really good job. Try going with some bixenon bmw projectors or if u don't care for high beam then get tsx which I heard is best bang for ur buck. Or s2k projectors. I believe the e55 fits also as someone was selling on the rs25 forums.

    Thx, I'll look into that.

I read a bunch of the HID threads on NASIOC - think I saw that one. Heard Acura TSX were a good bargain. I'm considering separate lows & highs if I can possibly fit em to avoid the higher bulb cost when lows go (very, very rarely use the highs but want to have them when I need them).
