Just wondering if there is a way to move the rev limiter in an 07 wrx to different revs in different gears, or if its possible to move the "chip" lower. Basically I want to forcibly stop myself from getting so damn many speeding tickets. Yes, this is somewhat of a joke.
I'm sure if you got a reflash you could flash in a speed limit. Talk to the tunerz. Oh, and you SO fail at getting pics. That's the last time I let you borrow my pirate costume and not let me see you in it.
OT: But patron is so goooooooooooood. And I AM talking to tuners, just I didn't want to flood all the people who tune with PMs in their inbox. Plus new threads are cool, right Taras?
gear based rev warning would be pretty nice actually. especially integrated with the sti shift light. has this been done?
I am sure that a tuner could put in a rev limiter / governor. The car should aready have one it is a just a matter of making it lower.
Well, you can pull down the rev limit to anything you want. There is no separate "per gear" rev limiter, however.
Forget the rev limiter, just get a map with no boost. Otherwise if you're anything like me you'd end up racing to the reve limiter...trying to get power even though I know better (I have no self control in the car) at least with no boost you will have NO choice but to drive your car in a nice, legal manner
True. Is it possible to make a map with NO boost? IE - 0, nada, nil, none? Or would it still be the 6lbs of the wastegate?
You would still get wastegate pressure. There is no way around that. But seriously, it isn't that hard to limit yourself. I had the EJ22T with the 35R for a few days and while it did suck not being able to lay into it, I was able to keep it completely out of boost. you just have to man up and keep your throttle inputs light.
I've heard it, it isn't that loud. My CAMP system did the same thing through the speakers, but I unplugged it because it pissed me off.
I don't think there are any sensors of any kind for the ECU to know what gear you're in directly from the tranny. only way would be for it to do quick math and compare the VSS signal to the RPM. and there really isn't much need for it, so I doubt any EM systems bother. with that said, to you're original question, no. I HIGHLY doubt there's any way for the ECU to have a different red line in different gears. however, there might be a way to put a speed limiter on it. but then you'd either be speeding in the 30mph zones, or you'd get run over on the freeway because your car wouldn't be able to go over 30. or.......just get less power. get an N/A intake plenum, and bypass the turbo. low compression motor with turbo back pressure! speeding no longer an issue :yumyum:
You can do this with certain after market tacks you can set a shift light/rev limit for each gear. It requires a clutch switch to sense the shift and also only works from a stop after being in neutral and running through the gears in a sequential order. If you short shift or down shift to another gear you are s.o.l.
The 32bit ECU's can sense which gear you are in (hence per gear WG tuning). I am unsure as to how the back-end works, however. I would venture to guess you're right on the speed vs rpm angle.
I'm sure you could disconnect the wastegate c-clip and tune a map around that... Or just get a 2001 impreza.
tape a block to the inside of the pedle so you can only push it down so far... to the point where your in 5th gear the car will only go 65mph... ?
