Anyone know anything about them? I know that drifters use them all the time. I was thinking about getting a set for the miata. anyone know of a good place to get them? Thanks, T I am on a roll with new threads today.
Hey Taras, The one thing I consistently saw when researching General Tires (I was considering their UHP tires) was that the sidewalls are a bit soft and had a tendency to fold during high-stress cornering. Also, it seems that their tread life wasn't as good as expected and the quality degraded severely towards the end of their life. To be fair, it appeared that the reviewers saying these things were comparing them to Eagle F1's and higher-end G-Force's, etc. The overall consensus is that for the price they are surprisingly good, but that you are getting what you pay for. If hard-cornering isn't a big issue they would probably be quite good. Also, some people had better luck running them a few PSI on the high side. Lastly, check out www.tirerack.com - they have some of the best deals around. P.S. - Personally, I think I've pretty well settled on Yokohama S.Drive's (though I might hold off ordering them until next spring). I have G-Force sports now, and they're okay, but I'm not terribly impressed - the life has been decent and wear is even, though they feel much better at 38-40 psi then 35.
yeah, well i need new tires for the mita. The once that are on it now are all cracked and kinda scary to drive on. I dont want to spend much on the tires right now tho.
I From everything I read they sound like a great deal. Just some people had trouble when worked to hard - which could've been an issue if you were looking for summer tires for the subie.
might as well throw your money down a hole. Get some decent tires and just spend a little more money.
well I am running Generals on my rims... ind you I have like a 35 sidewall but man they are quiet riding on highway, handle well in wet or dry.. heck even drove on em the last 2 weeks of snow... for the price they compare (depending which ones) to any other typical tire... good bang for the buck as far as the ones I am running..
Depends on style of driving... If you are looking to drive it hard and corner, then they are not the tire to do so. Discount tire sells the general exclaim UHPs and they are nice for daily use but not for hard driving.
I have UHPs on my car now, great daily drivers. However they are not track tires at all, sidewalls are too soft, grip is not that great. If you plan on tracking the car get something else.
actually this is totally not the tires I was intersted in I actually meant Federals not Generals. So what you guys think about Federals?
It always amazes me how much money people are willing to spend on a car and mod it out but feel the need to put some budget tires on it because they're trying to save a buck.
The single best "suspension" mod you can do is tires. They effect everything. Unless you need something to travel cross-country on and nothing else (my current tires) don't bother cheaping out. For your money get a set of Kumhos. The MX are cheap, effective, and good for daily driving and auto-x. As for saying g-Force are good tires: Bwahahahahahahahahha! Carry on with your bad self and buy some good tires. For my money I'll get the Kumho MX.
