So, with Gran Turismo 5 now available (i still can't believe it is out, I figured it was going to be more Sony vaporware this year) we should setup races.

I know we have a PS3/XBox/Steam/Wii name thread going, but this list will be for people that have GT5 and want some friendly competition, or for trolls that just want to bash cars around for a while.

Post up your PSN name here when you've got your copy of GT5. I run a TeamFortress 2 server and a Minecraft server, so I'm more than likely going to want to setup contests and maybe do prizes of varying levels of value. More on that as things progress.

Ugh, I was hoping to wait it out until closer to Christmas when I'll have some time to play... buuuuut, I broke down and stopped by BB on my way from some parking lot grooming. It's loading now. Probably won't be online until I get all the licenses and unlock some stuff, but if you see me online gimme a shout:

    Thoughts so far:

    Pros -
The driving feels as responsive as ever.
    Graphics are amazing as always
Sound is amazing as always...especially in 5.1 surround.

    Cons -
Experience system. **** that. If I have the cash I should be able to buy the car. XP limiting cars takes the fun out of buying a cool car early on, decking it out with ridiculous parts and then stomping through some of the races with it.
I have yet to find the pot of gold race. The GT4 Costa D'Amalfi race where you get the Toyota RSC car was great for 250k each time you completed it. I'm still trying to find that race in this one.
I forgot how much I hate grinding in racing games. You look around for ways to earn cash and get XP, but after a while you're stuck dicking around with the gimmicky races.

Biggest gripe so far: The VW Bus challenge on the TopGear Test Track. Absolute horseshiat. 12 VW buses that can't get over 50mph on that tiny track, and they disqualify you if you bump too much, if you knock over cones (that they have strategicly placed to limit the track width to the width of a VW bus), or go in the grass. **** like that really irks me in GranTurismo games. The gimmick races that prove nothing about your ability to drive and have everything to do with just adding another dumb race to your list of things to check off. Like GT2's one make races. Like I really want to buy a Honda Beat just so I can race that stupid race.

If anyone finds the magical money pot race that pays out a quarter million for an easily won race, let me know. I really don't like grinding to get cars that I have no intention of driving.

i agree about the VW busses. i also dont like that i cant do any photo shoot with "standard cars" (anything bought used?) i also dont like that i cant fully modify "standard cars" as for the money do the go cart races in special or the licenses they seem to give out the most money. races seem to give you the least. and who else hates spec B races???
fav car so far, my WRB 99 sti pushin a little over 450 HP!!!

played it a bunch last night with a few high-school buddies, mostly on arcade mode. It's much better than expected. After prologue, I had pretty low expectations for gameplay with a controller. But it came through.

    Yea, experience. WTF.

For anyone that hasn't started yet. Don't worry about your first car too much. Going through license tests and then a few special events will bump your experience and cash enough to give you a pretty good selection before you start racing your own car.

I probably won't get online this weekend as my parents only have DSL. But when I get back to Duluth I'll probably hop on. sn is NumbchuxSOAD

I picked up my copy yesterday. My screen name is bobafettwrx. So far I'm pretty impressed. I had been waiting for 5 years for this game.

I was disapointed there are no alcyones or svxs though.

Picked this up last night, waited an hour and half to install it. Played from 10-2am. Game is incredible as expected. I don't really mind the experience system because I feel like your not gonna have 75k too quick anyways to buy a level 15-20 car.

If you do all the licenses as you go along, you accumulate money quickly. I won and sold the ft86 concept car for 90k within a couple hours of playing the game.

I'm really hoping the used car lot is rotating. If I missed out on the 993 RUF rs200, and 22b already I might as well quit now lol.

I'm at level 12 now and hit a wall... my eyes and thumbs hurt lol. I started playing b-spec and have it running in the background... pretty funny watching the cpu destroy everyone with the mugen cup car and dn-x concept. Here's a tip if you plan to do b-spec (which you might as well on your down time... it's easy money and free cars), don't sell the stupid gimmick cars you buy for a-spec (kei cars, mini cooper, truck, miata, etc...) you'll need them in b-spec

When you get the notice that the Gran Turismo Rally is available, go buy a Ford Escort ST, you can do some minor mods to it, but don't go over 245HP. You can win every event in the beginner rally with this car easily. Each set of races pays 48,000 dollars and nearly 4000xp. Do all 3 series of races and you'll nab about 150k, 9000xp, and they'll give you a 99 STi sedan that you can use to roast everything on the field in the 90's Japanese car races.

Another gripe, one that I'll never get over, is not being able to buy new wheels for "Standard Model" cars. Or being able to tune/mod them. What's the point of the used car market if you can't upgrade them. That was how I got through GT4, buy up used cars, throw a little bit of cash into parts, and go rock a race with it then sell it.

Got the game. First time we played we set up the ps3 on our new 1920x1200 1080p computer monitor and installed the game. Now we moved it to a regular style TV. The game looks like it only displays in wide screen mode. Is that the way it is? Does anyone else have this on a old style non HD tv? We tried adjusting in game and on the ps3 home display settings but no change.

Only thing Im not liking so far is load times seems like everything we do in game we have to wait for. We even did the option to load some of the game on the hard drive to make it more speedy.

I have never understood the reason for the existance the B-spec mode and never used it in GT4 (of 5). I'm baffled by having the computer run races for you. I just don't get it.

Yeah b-spec is dumb. But it earns me money while I take a food break lol.

I guess I'm used to the load times so they don't really bother me... yet.

My biggest gripe so far is WHY THE **** DOES MY TEMPEST SOUND LIKE A CLAPPED OUT 4-BANGER RICE ROCKET! Somehow I ended up with half a dozen mullet-mobiles in my garage and I want them to sound like Dukes of Hazard not Tokyo Drift Damnit!

Also Jason, the Nascar challenges are worth a lot of money and are surprisingly challenging as well. It took me a couple hours to get all gold on the beginner and intermediate as opposed to being able to get gold on the first try on all the rally stages. Thanks for the tip on that one too, I hadn't been doing any of the special races and that helped me catch my second wind around 3am last night lol.

Jason, can you set up a league with just kubelwagens?

Also, real damage starts at level 20 and you need to restore the chassis rigidity every now and again fml I shouldn't have fully modded the 599, gallardo, and veyron lol

Yeah I noticed the 22b also and was going to pick it up but then had to blow all my money on crappy cars and upgraded parts to win some races. Then I noticed once it became a new day (in game time) the entire Used selection rotated. So I'm assuming it's daily? One of the trophies is to collect over 1,000 cars.. so you would think the used section rotates.

Oh and I used the Mugen Civic Cup Car for the 90's Japanese races and completely dominated. That car is a beast! Nearly lapped the last place guy by the 4th lap.

Has anyone gotten to A-spec level 20 yet? I guess Polophony is using a "progressive damage modeling" system. So once you hit 20 it starts to really kick in. I'm level 13 and I noticed some damaging during the classic muscle car challenge. I guess once you reach level 40 the game gets progressively harder... if you bump a car your car breaks and performance is effected massively.

Every race is considered a day and 6 new cars show up in the used car lot (the bottom 6 drop off the list). So if you do a 5 race series pretty much the whole lot is new.

I'm at level 20 now and it kinda sucks. From what I've seen each car has a different price to restore the chassis, so you can end up paying anywhere from a few grand to half a million fixing a busted up car. Hopefully there's a better way to fix them up.

It's a 22hp vw bus/jeep/pos that you win. In case people don't have it yet, apparently you can make a dummy psn account and set your birthdate to that day with the year as 1944. When you sign in you get the vw for your bday and then you can gift it to your real account. We could play for pink slips since you can sell it for 7x,xxx. Last place has to gift the car to the winner.

by the time I get this game everyone will be done playing it. :sadbanana:

I'm thinking of getting a logitech wheel - is it worth it for driving ability/simulation? I've always used the controller, but it obviously lacks in precision. I was wondering if the wheel makes you a better driver on the game.

Same here. I've used a wheel on GT4 and I didn't really notice a difference in performance. It takes more getting used to if you use a controller all the time.

Is anyone else dissatisfied with some thing in GT5? Like why can't I put rims on any "normal" cars? Why is there no brake upgrades? Why do I have to hear that same crappy music everytime I receive a car? The game is great overall but alot of little stuff they fell short on.
