Here's a coupon in case any one is looking for some jack stands. http://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-heavy-duty-jack-stands-38846.html
I have the orange and white HF jack stands. They would great, my only complaint is that the "v" on the part that touches the car is to deep.
Be aware, there is/was issues with the stems breaking in half on the three ton stands from HF. I can't confirm if its still a problem but it scared the crap out of me. Btw, I bought a set of craftsman 4 ton professional jack stands for 25 (on sale). They go on sale about every 1-2 months.
HF sells both steel and aluminum 3 ton stands. Right now it's the steel ones on sale. The steel ones do have a deep "V" so they don't sit fully on all pinch welds. However I haven't really had much of an issue with this. I have been very happy with mine over the last few years. No problems to report. I actually have the 6 ton stands now and I do prefer them, but they require you to lift your car much higher (the lowest setting is close to the highest setting on the 3 ton stands). FYI - The ones I have under Derek's car do not have the deep "V". But if you are worried about that issue, they do make covers specifically for that: http://www.harborfreight.com/automo...2-piece-rubber-pads-for-jack-stand-95952.html Here are the other jack stands they sell: http://www.harborfreight.com/automo...tands/3-ton-heavy-duty-jack-stands-38846.html http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/jack-stands/3-ton-aluminum-jack-stands-91760.html http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/jack-stands/6-ton-jack-stand-set-38847.html
I have 4 6 ton jack stands from napa. Heavy Duty for sure. Won't ever need that much but don't hurt to have them.
The rubber pads linked above work great. I have them on all of my stands. I don't think I'd ever go for the aluminum stands. Is there really any benefit to them? A few pounds??
Out of all the jackstands I've had/used, my favorite are still the Kobalt ones from Lowes. The base is wide (and has more surface area that contacts the ground for more stability). The Locking Mechanism is nice too (twist and push in to lower, then release and twist to lock). $25 for 2 They also have lasers in top of them for lining up the stands before lowering the vehicle onto the stands (if you are that incompetent to not be able to do it without lasers...). http://www.lowes.com/pd_4118-20535-85009_0__?productId=3339224&Ntt=jack stands&pl=1¤tURL=?Ntt=jack+stands&facetInfo=
