people keep on talking about baking headlight to black them out so i was think june 20 i could host a head light baking/blacking out mini meet at my house. i got room for 20cars+ in the drive way. got 2 ovens to bake head lights in. people can bring heat guns to part the head lights to. i have a 2 stall garage that we could used to paint in i will have hookah rolling. come out if u have bake head lights before and help out or to come and hang out and smoke some hookah . DATE JUNE 20 TIME ??????
If it's early enough in the day can we call it a headlight wake and bake  I could probably bring a set of 07 taillights and demonstrate how to cut open and paint those too.
MINT APPOVED. don't think i will bake my headlights, but i might come for the fun... I will see what time i get out of work. DAMN YOU THURSDAYS!
I used krylon fusion paint for plastic (flat black) on my STI and they held up just fine. Just needed a little fine grit sand paper and adhesion promoter. If anything, I would worry about the seal. Warming them back up usually takes care of it, but having some extra rtv around would be a good idea.
Kinda dumb question, but here it goes... Does anyone have a ton of paint others can use? or can someone tell me what stuff I should buy/bring (paint, brushes?, sandpaper?) to do this..?
That is a great question! People who are doing this should GB the products, because otherwise there will be a lot of waste. I would offer to do it, but I am just coming to hang out... so I don't need any product.
if people want to i can buy some stuff if people want to chip in when they get here. also my yard is not fenced in but i do have a ton of rope that i tie to a tree for the dog. so if u want to bring u dog feel free. also we could do soem bbq if people want to bring stuff
I voted for the 13th, but can make the 20th if it's later in the day. NT2 is on the 19th. What grit sandpaper and what adhesion promoter did you use Sheen?
i would be down for this. I've been wanting to do this for awhile now. I picked the 13th, but i believe either date would be good for me
I don't think you'll need to do a GB. I did 3-4 sets of lights with 1 can of kylon fusion flat black and 1 can of duplicolor adhesion promoter. Rubbing alcohol and dish soap if you don't have any prep solvent. Tack cloths are like $1 each too. Just use a scotch bright pad or fine grit (wet sandable) sand paper. I suppose you could go from medium to fine to superfine if you have 07 chromed out headlights and want to go all the way down to the plastic... just use your head when sanding. I prefer not to dig into the plastic, just scuff up the finish. list of supplies: something to clean the surface (prop solvent, prep wipes, dish soap and alcohol, etc...) something to scuff the surface (scotch bright pad, sand paper, etc...) something to clean dust off the surface (optional - tack clothe) adhesion promoter base coat clear coat (optional) rtv or something to reseal older headlights (optional)
I'm thinking this'd be a good chance to change the bulbs to some brighter ones, any suggestions? ('04 WRX)
I'll actually be attempting to cut-open my tail lights and painting them, since the headlights are already painted. I'll bring my Dremel and some RTV.
Sorry I don't remember off hand. do you have reflector or projector bulbs in the 04? I think you have reflector right?
Uhhh good question not sure.... I'll have to check. A quick google search shows this as the bulbs for an '04 WRX, not sure how accurate this is though: Low Beam Headlight Bulb Size: H1-55W High Beam Headlamp Light Bulb Size: 9005 Front Turn Signal Light Bulb Size: 7440 Fog/Driving Light Bulb Size: H3-55W :ugh:
Well a quick Google search (which I should have done before I asked the question) shows that your headlights are reflectors. The reason I ask, is to answer your question.... i would swap to projectors and put in HIDs. In My Opinion, a swap to HIDs will be the brightest option. I know that I will put them in all future cars that I own. But that is just me, some people might think it isn't worth the money to swap. Understandable. I wouldn't want to buy new headlights eighter.... better "performance" things to buy. However, if you already have projectors... i would always spend the $60 on the DDM kit. FYI. If you are going to the headlight bake sale at Dan's.... maybe look into just a low beam swap out. Might be way cheaper than new headlights.... not sure what all you have to do.... but might be an option since everyone is taking apart headlights anyways.
Ok, so evidently I'm quite ignorant in the lighting department... would this just mean putting in new low beam bulbs, or something more involved?? :s
there should be a don't care option on the poll ha its split down the middle almost and my vote can go either way
