Hey guys, I could use a little help. I have a 1998 Impreza L that the heat has stopped working on me most of the time. It's started working kind of intermitently. For example wouldn't work when I turn the car on, but when I hit my first bump it would then kick on. I've also noticed it's audibly louder as well. Well obviously it is cold, and heat is a necessity. Is this common on these cars, or what do we think it is?

Is the fan turning off and on, or is it blowing but changing from heat then cold? Does sound like a fan though since you can bump it and it comes on.

and if it is the blower motor, get it fixed sooner than later. i had a bmw that the motor was starting to go bad so i would just pop the hood and hit the cover and it would work, until the bearings or whatever was inside to keep it spinning true wore out, and the fans hit the metal and i had plastic pieces every where that i had to dig out.

yeah when I turn the car on the fan isn't blowing at all, and then if I hit a bump a lot of times the fan will turn on, and it blows warm when it blows.

My guess is blower motor. I had a problem similar to this, only the fans would never blow. Check connectrions and grounds.
