My engine gave out on my 1999 Legacy GT , Automatic Transimission, (30th Anniversary with gold trim.) at 150k+ miles. Head gasket was fixed at 95K, so it didn't overheat. We lost compession in a cylinder. Completely. The mechanic said it looked like a valve came loose and put holes in the piston and cylinder wall. Doesn't sound good, and the car doesn't run. I would use a mechanic to put engine in, and always taking recommendations there. Otherwise this car is in great condition. It is just starting to rust at the fenders. I have owned it since new. Has anyone swapped in a JDM (Japanese.) engine? What are the challenges with that? There are EJ25D JDM engines on eBay for $749 plus shipping. That seems cheap. There are new engines for $3k, but I don't love the car that much. I would prefer to swap in an EJ25D, but I know they are near impossible to find, so considering putting the JDM engine in. New member, but I have about 500,000 miles on subees. Live in the TC area.
intake manifolds are different and the lefthand cylinder head would need to be drilled/tapped for the EGR tube. most guys just swap the blocks and reuse everything from the USDM engine, but it sounds like you need the heads too. (even the injectors are different, I have a ej25d JDM IM hanging in my garage)
Thanks for the straight forward answer. It sounds like I need to stay with the US engine. My engine has few usable parts inside. I am having trouble finding a good EJ25D engine. New ones are $3000, thats too much for this car. Used ones are very rare. Any ideas on where to look?
Thanks! I also noticed that a little while ago you had a 2002 Subaru Impreza RS for sale. Do you still have that for sale?
yes sir, but I do have a interested party looking at it soon. but your welcome to come over and look at it (or buy it, lol)
