    MODS on the car are:
headerback exhaust no cats; 3"TBE. Everything before the turbo is stock.

W/ the gas more than 50%, the engine like CUTS OFF and no exhaust pulses. W/ my AP connected and on LIVE DATA, AFR shows 16, which is LEAN. There are no pulses at all until the RPMs drop to 600-700 and the car chokes and tries to stay on and you can hear burbles. Idles just fine at 14AFR avg.

    Fuel pressure,

might be involved with the fuel delivery system, hmm,
will update thread with a link to a youtube video of the issue,
I really think my car is dead this time.
    ouch

started it up 5 minutes ago,
makes a loud whining noise in the rear.

    then RPM guage drops,
    THEN CAR DIES,

    nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

    well, it's above average.

well, the video is only somewhat useful. There's a lot of clicking from you handling the camera. Can you get closer to the whining noise? Video tape that with out moving all around (put the camera down on a stable surface). Then we could get a better idea I think.

    Maintenance update

    Yesterday night,
the spark plugs were replaced and problem wasn't solved.
Check up and did a swap with the IMF sensor. That didn't work.

Nuke came by and did a computer diagnostics check on the vehicle.
Max fuel load was only at 33 percent compared to another test vehicle at 100 percent fuel load.

Next maintenance would be on replacing the fuel pump.

Does anybody know anything about the maintenance schedule or actual life of fuel injectors and fuel rails.
Could there be a possibility that there are mineral deposits causing a restriction of fuel to the engine?

I think he meant fuel pump duty cycle.

It's probably not the pump itself but rather the fuel pump controller.

    hey,
can I get more information on that fuel pump controller?
What happens if the fuel pump controller malfunctions?
Has it happened to anyone you know before?
What's the maintenace life of a fuel pump controller?
where it's located, where I can access it and does it make any sound?
    oh yeah,
and the price for the unit and how easy or hard can it be replaced?

    thanks

okk.....so far....me, demong, and silver sti pheng...swapped out his fuel pump...and its still the same results....the thing i notice is taht when i start it..it'll jump up to 2k rpm and drop back down... if you try to give a little throttle it wont even go anywhere..it'll die instantly....so...im thinking that it has to do with a sensor...but not sure where...and also...there's no check engine light....so ya..

Last resort is the dealership. thats going to cost me big bucks.
I'm planning to do a full newbie technical strip down and refurbishment.
It's always good to have spare parts for my wrx so i'm going to go ahead and order a bunch of stuff so I can do a full diagnostics and figure out the problem.
I sure hope I don't cause any more harm to my car.

Does it choke when you rev to your limit?

If so, it could be the turbo "locking" or "seizing" (don't know if this makes any sense) as I have had this problem before and the tech guy at White Bear told me that... I don't believe in what everyone tells me, but at the time I didn't know much about the car, this was years ago. Didn't pay a dime, covered by warranty at the time and got a new shortblock too...

You could be doing more damage to your engine than you already know it by now by testing out all sorts of things... Just log it like what Russ says...

    Hey guys,
seems like if there is a fuel limit then the rpm won't be able to reach turbo spool.
fuel limit caused by the fuel filter
fuel pump acted out loudly because it was having trouble with pumping fuel through the fuel filter,
replaced the fuel filter and everything should work out just fine.
I guess it's part of a normal maintenance for a vehicle
so the problem was basically the fuel filter.
thanks to all forum members that gave feed back on the site
thanks to t-rex5000 for giving me some understanding that there is a clog on the fuel delivery system.
Special thanks to my subaru buddies that helped me figure out the problem and helped me swap out my fuel pump,
    Dao,
    Pheng,
    Fong,
    Xai,
    Fuji,
    Lue,

You guys rock and thanks for helping me get my car back into running condition.

    i also forgot you Nuke,
    thanks for analyzing the problem.
Super america gas is just pathetic, octane set at 92. My car had problems after I pumped there.
I'll probaly go down to M&H for 93 octane this time

M&H 93 is iffy. Sometimes its good, sometimes its REALLY BAD, enough to make my car choke. That was when I was still NA too.

    Shell V-Power 92+ ftw.

Most of the gas for all the stations in this area come from the two refineries on Hwy 52 in Rosemount. The tankers get each brand's additives splashed in them and then dump the fuel in the station's tanks. So the only difference between gas at one station and the next is the additives and the physical tank at the station. Besides the different octanes of course...

    Edit
one is in Rosemount, the other off 62 in St. Paul Park.

I'm sure this topic has been visited (and revisted) but I think when people point out 87 octane is bad here is something to back it up:
