I have an 05 Outback XT with 67,800 miles on it. I was driving home from work today and got an error code (er SP) which when i looked said it was "Vehicle speed signal abnormal (ABS/VDC diagnostic trouble code information)"

So my question is what are possibilities of things that might have failed? All other electronics seem to be working correctly. Car drives the same, I just have no speedometer and an error code showing. I also know all information given is a possibility since the car is not infront of you to diagnose.

    Thanks,
    Scotty

Clear the code. Drive around the block a couple times and see if it comes back.

Did anything wierd happen right before the CEL came on?

no nothing wierd, no light flicker, just looked down and had no speedo and then saw code. I pulled over shut the car off and turned back on, no code and speedo worked. Then 1/2 block later the speedo dropped and the code was back.

Thanks for the information Dan. Unfortunately knowing my luck, I'll do the work and a week later the car will burst into a ball of flames. I'll have to get a hold of Morrie's about this and see when they can get me in to get it fixed, or if there is a technically savoy person on here that wants to help please shoot me a pm.
