Alright, would appreciate your help with these questions - I wish the subie community had standardized the terms they use for the various exhaust components : ) So I have an 05 WRX (or close enough) with a Prodrive 2.5" axleback, and a Prodrive 'shorty' split-bellmouth downpipe which mates up with the stock 2.5" cat pipe (aka midpipe) and the stock 2.5" intermediate exhaust pipe (also called the midpipe by some people/vendors, which makes things confusing!) I'm interested in bumping up the diameters a bit, but I really like the sound of the Prodrive muffler and I don't especially want to buy a new 3" downpipe. So far I found out that Maddad makes a hybrid intermediate pipe (3" flange at front to 2.5" at the rear axleback flange, so no more annoying donut gasket - yay). Anyone other companies make something like this, or is there a local shop that could fabricate a pipe with a nice 3>2.5 taper at the rear? Actually now that I think of it, maybe I could use the Grimmspeed 3" to 2.5" downpipe adapter at the end of a normal 3" intermediate pipe... Then I'd also be looking for a 3" cat pipe, and have to get the 2.5" flange at the end of my downpipe cut off and replaced with a 3" flange. What shop would you guys recommend for quality stainless exhaust work like this? Anyone have some of these parts lying around (3">2.5" or straight 3" intermediate pipe, 3" cat pipe)?? I'd post a separate ad in the WTB section, but sometimes it seems like it's not checked that much : ) Thanks for your help, Eric
Eric, if you are looking for the 3" to 2.5" adapter I may have an extra if you'd like it. Let me know.
I would suggest a 3" downpipe (and adapter) or a Cobb downpipe which tapers to 2.5" at the flange. Then if you want, the Sti mid pipe is 2.5" all the way back and has a high flow resonator.
Thanks for the thoughts gents. J, I'm going to ask grimmspeed if the part will work for that, then I'll get back to you
