If you guys are bored on sunday and you live in the cities you can certainly come join me with the DP install and the HID lights install. I will probably be doing them in Northfield but I live in AV.

Ah yes. I would attend something like this if I knew people on here. Being as I am new and I know only one MNSUBARU member it would be a rather odd trip for me. Plus, it seems like a lot of people end up wrecking their vehicles up there and I just can't do that.

more reason to go to something like this.. mostly why I am making the trip... I am more known by being an ass on here then meeting people in person as I am too lazy to drive to Firestone every friday (and I have a life ;) ) this is a great time to have some fun, hang out, meet new people, and you only wreck your car if you are trying too...

99% of the people drive there and drive back no issues....

Well it is too late for me now. There is always next year though and by that time I am sure I will have met some people off of here. And who wants to go hang out at an auto shop? If it were a bar everyone met at then maybe I would be there.

But I should head up to Firestone because what I have heard is that is where I can get some GD stickers and I have been waiting on getting some of those. I have to represent!! And you are absolutely right carl.

yes, it was the ballast. I called them gave them a 25$ deposit and they sent me a new one. I sent the bad one back in the box with the label they sent and in about 5 days the money was back in my account.

I did the 25 to hurry things up. you can just send the bad, they test if confirmed they send the new one out, but I was impatient.

very fast and easy to deal with when I took the time to call them.

I have had mine in for a while now and I like em. I do, however, need to unplug my DRL's... On Tuesday morning when it was uber foggy, I realized that I've been getting flashed all the time because my passenger headlight points right at oncoming traffic... I gotta aim those this weekend.

I have a potentially great spot to aim them out on the west side but I need to take a bubble level to it.
What do they say, 60' away, level ground, paralell wall?

    why???

you need to put a resistor between the high/ low beam wires. I never did it on mine I just dealt with the light being on.

I had a slim ballast go bad, but when they replaced it they sent me a fat apexcone one and they seem way better!

I picked up a set of the 3500k but I haven't put them on yet due to the cold and I plan on swappping my stock fogs out with some Prodrive P1 fogs.

Did you wire with a relay, or straight off the factory harness? It might not be the ballast, but rather that the ignoter isn't getting the startup current it needs.

I've got the Full-size 55w ballasts and use them every day. Not a problem yet! On instantly and everything. Hooray!

And I used the back of a Target to aim my headlights. Large flat wall. Worked great.

IIRC the standard aiming procedures only require 25' from a wall. Do a google, and you'll find them.

I had one of the slim ballasts go bad. I am not using relays as they dont need to be wired with relays. the ballast will work from 9v to 14v.

It's not the voltage that's the issue. It's the rush current needed to ignite the bulb. Once they're lit, they draw less than normal halogens, but for a split second they draw considerably more, and often it's more than the very light gauge wiring many Japanese cars (and especially Subaru) have can handle.

but all the extra current is coming from the ballast, not the stock wiring. thats what the ballast is for.

It doesn't magically produce extra current, it needs to pull it from somewhere. It does have a larger than average draw for about 1/10 second.
