Well, not really. 17 degrees of timing at idle is not a good thing. pegging both his ltft and stft is not a good thing.

actually 17 degrees is quite normal on these cars.

Considering I didn't adjust his idle timing... I'd say that it's pretty much STOCK.

As you may have noticed, the problem with maxing the trims happened WELL AFTER the map was used and only after filling up at the gas station. Again, stock air box SHOULDN'T require excessive MAF cal changes if any at all.

I still think there is something wrong with the car. However, I am trying to work the tune to help combat the issue at hand. There is no reason his car should be leaps and bounds different (tune wise) than every other WRX with modded injectors and a big turbo. However, IT IS. And it's something mechanical.

Looky here: stock timing vs Andrew's timing. If MAF cal is unchanged (which it was on the logs you were looking at) idle should be at the same load and rpm. HOWEVER, a mechanical problem like a leak of some sort, could cause the load readings to be off changing his timing. Regardless, his 17 degrees at idle, if not normal, is due to the issue, not the tune. See attached photo of his timing vs stock... same-o same-o around idle hmmm.....

What would actually be helpful, is for someone else in the area to give him a hand and take another look at his car. Someone who is relatively experienced with subarus. It's always nice to have a second set of eyes on it.
It's possible that it's just ****ty gas with water in it. Or that the ethanol winter mix was too concentrated at that gas station. It'd be really handy to get the specific gravity of the fuel and see where it sits.

Andrew, have you done a compression test? I'd suggest that and maybe a leakdown test (depending on the results of the former).

IMHO, I know you where knocking very hard on your previous VF39 tune, it may be a good idea to ensure the engine is still OK. From what I remember, it has been run pretty dang hard, and for quite awhile.

Yikes. well that'd sure be a nice thing to check if that is the case.

So where might I get a compression test done? Who could test specific gravity of fuel?

I got my exhaust leak fixed, it was the crappy gasket (midpipe-DP( that came with the SPT exhaust. I reset the ECU and the high idle didn't go away, like you guys said it probably wouldn't.

I just bought a compression test gauge ... cy1-140 cy3-147 cy2-147 cy4-155 ... I filled up with fresh gas today and had the same issue of cranking for about 10 secs before it started. Then, I got misfire CEL 301. I switched the coilpacks today on 1 and three and we'll see what happens. With fresh gas, my AFRs seem to be about 15.2 at idle. That's down from before when they were about 16.

That cylinder 1 seems kinda low, compare to the others
