Is 44K alot on a VF39? I'm going to check for in shake once its off the car, there are no leaks or cracks to the outside. (Its off a 04 or 05 STI)

Should I consider purchasing a whole new center unit? If there is some shaft play?

Are all VF39's ball bearing Turbos?

As far as I know most IHI turbos are not rebuildable. VF39s are not known for going out that often, but it all depends! I dont think any 39s were BB.

I would just check for the normal indicators. Shaft play and what not.

vf39's are not bb. mine came off with around 60k with zero radial shaft movement, tiny bit of axial but that's expected

+1, a little radial (side to side) movement is fine. Just make sure it doesn't have any axial (in and out) movement. 44k on a VF39 is fine.

If 44k were high mileage, they'd be swapping them out during the usual maintenances.

Sounds good I just wanted to ask, I want to swap out turbos and keep the new one for awhile.
