First brew session on the new stand took place this Saturday. After brewing i've decided to call it my "Dank IP". Still working on funds to get my pump plumbed and parts to turn the keg into my mlt.
Anyone here want this wooden cart/stand before I put it for sale on Craigslist or burn it? It's not great but it works. The casters don't roll very well and I should probably remove those and put them back on my creeper. Let me know in the next couple days. Kettle, Burner and cooler are NOT included. JUST the wooden cart
Anyone interested in some hop rhizomes? I have 4 Cascade rhizomes left that need a home. I'd trade 3 of them for a 4 pack of Surly Furious. They're located in Maple Grove. Shoot me a pm if you're interested.
I'm interested in those rhizomes if you still have them. Brewing a rya pale ale today for my buddies graduation in a couple weeks. 10# Marris Otter 3 # domestic rye malt 1# flaked rye .25 # chocolate rye .5 # rice hulls Safale US-05 1 ounce Yakima 2 ounce centennial 1 ounce glacier
Looks like a solid recipe! Kegging 10 gallons of my "Freezer Cleanout IPA" today. Mmmmm mystery IPA. You have pm
Well it looks like my dad is letting me dig up some of his now spreading rhizomes tomorrow. But thank you for the response and offer.
Nice, get them in the ground as soon as you can. Have fun watching them grow, not a day goes by that I don't check on the garden to see how much they've grown.
Anyone heading to http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/ this year? I plan on going with a couple friends, road tripping it down there.
Made a pineapple pale ale. Just did a basic american pale ale and added two pounds of pineapple to the secondary. Fruity aroma, just slightly sweet with the pineapple flavor, finishes bitter. I am really happy with the way it came out.
Nice, sounds very interesting. Never tried pineapple before. Could only imagine it being bitter, but in a good way. I brew a fall Pear Hefe with the pears harvested from a pear tree in my yard and it ends up tart and bitter but o so refreshing.
Chinook hop plant Any one interested in a Chinook hop plant? Bring a bucket and i'll dig it out of the planter for ya. Or I can put it into an ice cream bucket I got kicking around. I'm thirsty and could use some Surly Furious in trade :yumyum: looks like posting pictures is a no go. It looks like a hop plant with a couple bines that are about 1' tall.
It came out pretty good, just a little bit of bitter. A lot of pineapple aroma in the front. Only problem I have is I get some major gut rot from one beer!
I am guessing its the pineapple. I get the same thing from pineapple juice. Its a good gift beer so I am not worried about going through it!
2011 growth (not including two on the fence and one on the far side of the yard) and the stand before the latest round of mods:
Nope they stay in the ground and come up every year. In fact, the plants are so tough that it has been said that where there are hops, there will always be hops. If you want to grow some just let me know and I'll lop off a rhizome. "root-like" shoot that the plant sends off to proogate itself.
:Yeah, that would be awesome. I'll take some beer to go with the plants too.:yumyum::wiggle::cheers2:
Wow, when did your hops pop up!??! Mine are only half as high. (been growing nearly 3" a day though =D )
Anyone interested in a 15" stainless false bottom? $30 http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/for/2452664253.html
Here's a couple worth giving a look. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/thunderstruck-pumpkin-ale-ag-extract-versions-26699/ http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/samhain-pumpkin-ale-140674/
Nevermind, Paul > Ted at computerz. I suppose I'll need one too, we have about 60 pumpkins about the size of softballs going in our garden right now. I think I'll either give them to my neighbor kids for free or build a pumpkin launcher and blast them onto the highway.
Or make them into beer with your buddies! With that forester I bet I could haul my kit over to your place for a brew day
blip.....blip.....blip Centennials now over an inch in length and will be first in line to harvest this year.
This weekend I'm going to be finally kegging and bottling my 46&2 contest beer. Maybe on Saturday when I was supposed to be evaluating it - that's fitting, huh!?
Man... if I wasn't so busy with work I would totally go over and have you help me assemble my brewing kit. Still have another 5-6 weeks of hell to get through. Santa doesn't help with making video games for Xmas
Well, you let ME know when you're ready and we'll get you the stuff. I still need to inventory what I HAVE so we'll know what you'll still need.
Brewed up the Samhain pumpkin ale that Paul linked from HBT on saturday. I roasted 4 cans of organic pumpkin (no libbys at kowalskis next to NB and I was too lazy to go anywhere else) for a half hour and tossed that in with the mash. I hit all my temps pretty spot on, gravity came out a little low, around 1.050 I think, but I am not looking for a boozey one here. Half way through the mash I realized I had returned the wort chiller I had been "borrowing" for the past 2 years when my neighbor moved out, so I jumped in the car and ran to northern brewer quick to buy a replacement (only 3/4 mile from my house). Also I had to borrow a 1/2 teaspoon of allspice from my little old lady neighbor (told her I would bring a bottle over in a couple months ha). The smell in my basement is pretty fantastic, pumpkin and spice along with the typical smells. On a side note, I really really need a pump. I am finding it impossible to drain the wort out of my keggle post-boil, for one it is wayyyy too slow, but also it doesn't appear to be siphoning like I would expect. I have 2 feet of high temp hose hooked up to a barb fitting on the drain valve, going into the carboy, but after 1/2 hour of waiting I just picked up the kettle and poured it into the carboy with a funnel, obviously creating a huge mess. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/samhain-pumpkin-ale-140674/
Nice Scotty! Sounds like a winner! Keep us posted on how it turns out. I've used a few spices here and there but nothing close to pumpkin and spice. Got around to getting my Magnum IPA on an ounce of leaf Magnum dry hop this weekend. Twill be an interesting experiment to say the least. Mmmm 10 more gallons of IPA.
Hey Scotty. Check out theses guys for a pump. Great product, Ted has two of their early models with stainless heads. Even if you go without the stainless head it'll be cheaper than a March pump and it has a more powerful motor than the March pumps as well. Also you can always upgrade to the stainless heads down the road if you decide not to go with them from the get go. http://www.chuggerpumps.com/
Thanks for the link, one of those has been on my amazon wish list for a couple years... I might have to send a reminder to my family to get it this next time around I ran across another forum member who was looking at my car and would be interested in a learn-to-brew session if anyone is planning on hosting one in the future. It would be cool to get a couple of us together and be brewing and invite a few people to watch / learn the process.
Ted or I are always down for brewing and neither of mind having a few guests over for a watch/learn session. Well I don't mind, Ted is an ax murderer. I've got a few brews coming up that I wouldn't mind having a few people over. I'll take a look at my schedule and see what I can put together as for possible dates.
