Sorry it does not come with a Simcoe rhizome. I can however throw in a Citra rhizome and a baby unicorn that brews only the finest of brews for you.
Same here! Got a nice sunburn to show for it. Got these monsters out of the ground and then back into the ground at the new place. The Cascade was monstrous to say the least. Picture are Cascade(largest), Centennial, Columbus, Chinook, and Zeus. 2nd year Zeus crawling out of the Subaru bag
Holy crap, those things are MASSIVE! Damn!!! Patrick (Pksublime) is taking my three crowns - and Paul, you owe him a Fugg rhizome next year.
Fugg rhizomes for all! Anyone interested in some Cascade rhizomes? I have enough to start a small farm. Pictures can be seen here- http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/grd/2932957996.html
Ted! Been busy with the baby, my New Glarus spotted cow clone turned out really well, but I think its the longest a corny keg has ever lasted in my house. Been slacking on my beer drinking lately
Thanks! this is my first foray into into making up my own recipes. Next batch I've been commanded to start a lambic. Any experience in these out there?
Awesome! Let us know how it turns out. Nothing better than writing and brewing something of your own creation. I've made some fruit meads and also Pear and Strawberry Hefewiezens. When adding fruit I like to keep it to the secondary. Bag up your fruit in a sac and rack on top of it, its a mess if you don't have it contained somewhat. What style and fruit are you thinking?
Lil Miss 2002.5 wants ones like the Lindeman's lambics. She usually likes the raspberry one best, but maybe I'll split half to peach.
Well then best to give her exactly what she wants, good idea on splitting the batch. You'll need lots of fruit and raspberries are by far the most expensive. - http://www.byo.com/component/resource/article/Indices/51-Recipe Exchange/1781-lindemans-lambic I'd strongly urge you to stay away from bugs of any kind unless you're ready to set aside any and all plastic equipment that the bacteria touches. The fruit itself will give a tart flavor all its own. The main reason I don't brew sours or true lambic with bacteria is the fear of contaminating my entire brewery. Now that being said those with experience may have a good system for keeping the bugs where they should be, if there are any here with experience please post up and let us know.
Awesome, thanks for the recipe link. I think I had found it before, but had never noticed the extract version at the bottom. Do you know if the Wyeast Lambic blend is only yeast or does it contain bacteria too?
Wyeast 3278 does contain two brettanomyces strains so if you do choose to use it take proper precautions. Wish I could give you some more suggestions ideas as to go about using such a strain but I do not have any experience myself. Lots of great information out there though at homebrewtalk and the brewingnetwork. Good luck and let us know what you end up going with. And also don't let me scare you away from using such a strain, its doable you just need to take those extra steps to keep plastics separate and clean.
Mine are also not thrilled with the daily freezes. They'll bounce back though, they always do, with a vengeance.
I know I'm kind of showing up late to the party here but are there any still available? If so PM me and we'll figure something out. -Steve
Sorry Steve but they've all found new homes. If I happen to spot any stragglers coming up i'll let you know.
Sweet, thanks! I can trade for pellet hops if anyone has a need, I have a TON leftover from a big buy last year from hopsdirect. As in pounds still in my kegerator taking up a ton of space. -Steve
Is there such a thing as "leftover" hops? I wish I could keep hops around long enough but they all end up in my beers, the more the better! Which varieties do you have that are taking up a ton of space?
I'll post it up when I get home, I honestly can't remember them all. When I got them I just bought 2 lbs of each of about 6-8 varieties. Cascade, Chinook, northern brewer, amarillo, williamette and a few others I can't think of right now. I've been brewing a good bit as well, I even just brewed a Pliny the elder inspired clone beer and dubbed it the "Hoptomic bomb", it was very green from all the hops going into the fermentor. Beersmith said it was ~150 IBU and I still have about 4 oz I need to dry hop it with.
Damn, thats a good mix of hops to have a lot of. Especially Amarillo! Let us know how the Hoptomic Bomb turns out, can't go wrong with a Pliny clone.
FWIW www.hopsdirect.com is having a yard sale on 2011 hops, some pretty good deals going until 4pm PST (6pm here) today only.
Its about 13'. the 4x4 posts are cut just under 13'. I'm at the far side so that may make it look a little larger. Here's another photo. Shots taken in the evening so not the greatest shots.
Finally got the ropes up and hops in planters in place. West row is Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, and Cascade. The East side has Fuggle, Nugget, and my mystery plant in planters(next year these will be going in the ground) and Zeus in the ground. Still have a couple more ropes to run and it'll be ready for the season.
