Ran out of room on the tach, in 5th, driving the STi....about 135 or so.
In the RS, estimated about 132 (downhill)...

    135. Roadtripping back from Billings, MT. No other cars for miles, massively large highways, and I cruised at that for around 5 minutes. Fun.

Are you talking Waterville, down by Mankato. I am from that area. I know those highways well. 110 in my 06 WRX, down by Mankato.

One of the funny things I have noticed in this thread is: People talking about 120 - 135 like it is fast & scary . . . on four wheels.

The other and more ammusing thing I noticed was the idea that potholes at high speed are bad (on bikes).

Bikes, unlike cars, profit from speed in the currency of stability - due to gyro effect. The faster a bike goes, the more straight line stability it has. A pothole at 10mph is much more likely to dump a rider than that same pothole at 100. Cars getting funky at high speeds . . . yes. Bikes getting funky at high speeds . . . only if you try and take a sharp turn with too much juice.

WRXboy2003, what sort of ride ya got and are you on MNSBR at all (to bikes what this board is to Scoobies)?

on our way out to steamboat a couple years ago, we hit 110 in a grand caravan with 3 people, a trailer, and gear for 7 (each of us brought a desktop computer too....)

    I love valentine 1's

we also found out that caravans won't let you set the cruise over 95

I hit 154 with my Stage 2 2002 WRX. Had to calculate speed off the tach. That was definatley the max. it would go. A rough estimate is you need 5-6 peak crank horse power for every 1 mph top speed in an average sized car. i.e. 30 more horsepower equals 5 more mph top end.

I also hit 115 mph on a gravel road. I would say that was more challenging & stupid.

Last year on my way to LSPR a buddy and I did 152 in my STi. Ran out of road on the run up, so it could have kept going a bit. We were playing with some guys in a WRX for the last 30 - 45 min of the trip.

that's almost 6 times the speed limit, in a residential area!! You're going to kill someone, and the unfortunate thing is, it probably won't be you.

Anybody else experience a loud wind resonance at about 130 mph? Anybody know where the problem is coing from? It sounds like it is coming from the windows.

My wing resonates between 100 and 110 and then stops above or below that.

Someone told me that it is the stickers on the mirrors. Fold the mirrors and in there is a tag on there. I took them off but have not bee anywhere near that speed again. Not really planning on it.
