If you want to get some good snow, I'd advise waiting until sometime in Feb. when a good base has been built up.

yeah feb would gaurentee more snow but they've got special package deals for january, i would think even in january they would have plenty of snow, maybe we could go towards the end of january instead.

i plan on getting somethin together with the details in the next week or so, we'll start up a new thread for interested people only. this way people can start considering it because if we book it by october 1st we get better prices.

theres pleanty of snow there in december, so late jan. would be fine you need to remember its the mountains and not minnesota and they get snow almost every day starting late NOV.

As somebody who has been to "the big" numerous times and has several friends who live there, I can assure you that the riding doesn't really ripen until mid to late Jan. One Feb. hits, the mountain is pretty sick.

But then again, if you only plan to hit up the groomers, then yeah, you can ride there in December. Opening day usually isn't until early Dec. and even then, only a small portion of the mountain is open.

Actually this guy is somewhat right. Early March is pretty kickass up there; March usually has some of the most snowfall of the season.

Late March gets to be a bit too warm, though -- icy as hell in the morning, wakeboarding in the afternoon.

Plus, the freeze/thaw cycles of spring riding can make avalanche danger in the backcountry a bit scary.

yeah if youre planning on riding the groomes trails......but who spends the money to go west and rides the groomers? you all can go in december and spend an hour on the access chair line next to all the family vacationers that havent been on snow in three years, oh yeah and then you can spend a fortune on a hotel room.....plus november, december, january, februrary are wicked cold then march is awsome, i spent those 5 months in winter park in 2002 and the temps were miserable until the end of februrary, but hey its your money and you dont seem to want to take advice from somone has expirienced an entire winter there

id rather save money and ride in the cold then ride in warm weather, and actually your not completely correct, last winter my friend weant to colorado for christmas and he was riding in his T shirt for a week. either way the cold doesnt bother me, i ride in it all the time here

yeah shortthrow we're not trying to ignore you its the fact that ive said several times that there is better deals for january and for the price you cant go wrong, im sure march would be better but thats not what we are planning. we are all used to freezing cold here so whats the difference and no matter what there will be a million times more snow then here so who cares

I was going through a ski magazine today at work and deals can be had like none other right now. It is amazing how cheap some of places can be if you book now. Dont let this thread die as I think it would be super fun to do this

we're not letting this thread die i'm just waiting a couple weeks because most of the places dont have their winter info on their sites yet, and its so early its gonna be hard to get a count of for sure people. begining of september things seem to start picking up so we can start planning then.

If you want a good drive...go to Big Sky. Big Mountain is good too, but their all in essentially in the same spot. 13 hour drive, done it twice, and Montana is a good state to drive through...ND is kind of boring, but you gotta drive through boring states to get to the good stuff. Check out Bucks T-4 in Big Sky for lodging...they usually have good deals, and they have some monster hot tubs. Oh, and the skiing/snowboarding is great. I ride both skiis and snowboards...skiis for 25 yrs and snowbaord for 1 year...but going out west helps build your confidence and skill level. I'm always down for a trip...and february and early march are usually the best...although it is true that december and january give you the best deals. Driving to any Colorado mountain is tough because if they get major snow, you're gonna get stuck in it...and driving through the mountains slow you down.

    Later!

So this is a bit of a thread jack, I'm looking for a custom boot fitter up in the MSP area. I wear a Mens Size 12 6E, and need to have my boots (ski) fitted. So if anyone knows of a good shop please let me know.

Gravity lab (burnsville) Pierce skate and ski (bloomington) Joes ski shop (St paul).......or i can do it depending on what kind of fitting you want to do, there are various "fitting" things that can be done, so it all depends, but those pierce and joes can do every kind for sure

I need someone who can heat and stretch the shell most likely. 99% of the time I can touch both sides of the boot w/o the liner in.

Thanks for the names. I'll go check em out when i get up there next month. It'll be like heaven getting back onto my ski's more than once a year again. 11 years of skiing regularly then 2 of living down in FL = major withdrawl :p

    18 years and going strong

I started snowboarding a couple years BEFORE they would allow us on the ski hills (Spirit Mountain). Still ripping, this year I'm taking my usual Colorado trip and spending time at Silverton. (If it doesn't say EXPERT, Avalanche Danger, or CLIFFS AHEAD I don't any part of it!)

FYI: Erik's Bike will be carrying some great equipment again this year. Come to EP and look for the black WRX in the lot.

yeah i would recommend Pierce skate and ski, its a family owned shop so its good to support small business, ive been going there my whole life, and ive repped for them at some events, it really is a great place, just make sure you go as soon as you get up here because once the race season starts all hell breaks lose
