where can i find a "how to" to remove/replace the tranny? like a step by step or what bolts/screws i need to take off? im planning on taking out my auto tranny from a 96 impreza coupe w/2.2L. any info will help, thanks
Here's some info on taking the tranny out to change the clutch. It might be helpful. http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/clutch_install_transmission_removal-t2081.html?t=2081 I've seen others write-ups on scoobymods I think, so some searching there might find something.
Here is a better link than the top one, if you are looking for pics. lots of images http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1324240
Something those guides for clutch changes won't mention is your torque converter bolts. There should be a little rubber cover in an access hole on the top of the bellhousing on the engine (mine was sort of under & behind the intake manifold on the passenger side). You'll want to take those out (6 bolts iirc) so that the torque converter comes off with the tranny. Also, I had issues clearing the front axles from the tranny. What I did was take the castle nut off the bottom of the balljoint and pound off the a arms. That allowed me to pull on the hub assembly and pull the axle (still attached at the hub) right out of the tranny with plenty of room for it to clear the tranny. Some people will say this is unnecessary and as you lower the tranny the axles will have enough room to be pulled out, but that wasn't true in my case.
