here dude http://hyundaiforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5726 but in all seriousness this car is a bamf'n car. my favorite one is the "zenon photo store" or whatever and the next one down where the two are back to back. the left of those two is soo sexy. clean and stock looking, just the way i like em.
I think the big deal with this car is that you get a lot of performance without busting the wallet completely, but its been said before that they had to have cut corners somewhere and thats the part that worries me. So we'll see how the long term reviews turn out.
It's a 300hp rwd car for $25k. Why is there hype about a 230hp WRX or even the now 270hp WRX? K'mon. Competition is good. Plenty of people would love a 300hp rwd 2+2 coupe. I know I would.
I guess it's personal taste in regards to what hypes some people. I would get more hyped about a 207hp WRX than a 300hp Hyundai any day of the week. To me personally I find the AWD, Boxer turbo platform, Subaru reliability and Subaru styling more appealing than anything Hyundai has to offer even with the warranty they offer. Like I said, all personal taste.
It's a personal taste not many share. But that's ok the koolaid flows strong in this thread I guess a lot of people forget where Subaru came from
I'd drive one for sure. Not at all practical for MN, but I would definitely have to debate long and hard between this and a WRX if I were buying new again.
i want one. i think all the little tiburon owners i see trying to race everyone and their grandma no matter what they're driving should upgrade to one of these and at least make it interesting.
3 out of the 5 local dealerships received them today. one each. that would be really awesome news however they are ALL automatics argh Justin
If I was in the market to replace the Impreza, It wouldn't even be a contest. I'd buy this car hands down. 2.0L RWD turbo coupe, with eye catching body lines. If they got their ducks in a row as far as reliablity is concerned, I don't think this will have any problem selling. 3300lb car vs. 3200lb STi? Yeah, I'm sure I can shave that off somewhere. It has the Impreza in the looks department, that's for sure. And it's RWD, did I mention that? I'm half tempted to part out the WRX and sell it and get one of these instead.
hoping to have one on my hands in the next few weeks. get one too and you can help us test our prototype products on it Justin
I test drove one yesterday in light rain damp conditions. V6 6sp paddle shift Touring package. Hyundai Brooklyn Park Walser was very nice to let me test drive it on hwy 694 and 169 clover leafs. I am most impressed with the paddle shift, how quick and smooth the transmission switches gears. Pretty good acceleration for a 308hp 3200 lb car. Brakes had great initial bite and even pressure throughout the depression. The steering wheel has good feedback, just enough to keep you comfortable on the daily communtes and enough for when you need to feel the limits just like how she felt when winded two clovers on 169. The road as damp, and even with the all season tires, the car handled the speed pretty well, I saw the limited slip light flash a few times. Going up the clover leaf I was able to squeeze more power and just hold the steering wheel to get her around and on the way down she rotated very easily to setup for a great exit with the paddle down. They had the 2.0T model on the show floor, but I opted to test drive this one, as the weight difference was 100lbs. And felt the V6 has more potential in the long run. Of course the 2.0T will have more options at the moment, but the displacement IMO will make the difference in the long run. The seats felt great, and the heated seats are a plus especially when you have a hot date on a cold MN day, she'll be happy to jump into your ride anyday. The rear seats could easily fit somone my size or bigger with enough leg room. And the trunk has enough space for a few golf clubs or a few spare STI BBS wheels. The All Season tires didn't make as much noise as some car's I've tested in the past. I got a chance to speak with the Hyundai Representative and had one question I had to ask. Q: I informed him back when STI & EVO started showing up on the US market, they dealers were giving customers SCCA memberships but would than turn around and start looking for customers who participated in motorsport events and try and void their warrenty. I wanted to know if they would be doing the same and if I were to take it to High Performance Driving School? Considering what they are advertizing on their website with Rys Millen doing all that drifting. A: The normal wear and tear items like brakes and tires would not be covered, but anything like the engine, tranny, rear diff, the norm would be. Abuse wheather its on the street or on a track would void your warrenty. He basically assured me they have a solid product and if a rear diff or some sort were to break just as long as you're not trying to break the thing should be warrentied. So if I was younger and was in the market for a fun sports car, this would be the idea car. In some cases its a bite more car for a novice, but its something they can grow into, the power is very linear and not peaky, minimal understeer and feels very well planted on the ground. V6 ZF paddle shift Track version all the way!!! I wonder how much insurance would run on this bad boy!!! I would love to see and test one of these at a track.
I can tell you sounds great at start up and even better when you put the paddle down. Nice rumble with some grunt.
LOL that was the hiccup of my day of test driving. I first started at the Nissan dealership which no one paid any interest of me while I was looking at the 370Z. I had planned on test driving both and do a comparision, but that's going to have to wait till I can get my hands on one. I'll update this if you'd like once I get a test drive. It would be nice if someone would bring one to our events for a test run. LOL My brother inlaw refused to let me test drive his Genesis Coupe at the track.
Maybe you can test drive ours Chong, should be in our hands mid next week(enroute right now). Give me a ring and we can chat. Justin
Ah I just remember something that I found to be interesting from my conversation with the Sales rep. He had mentioned the 2.0T block is the same as the 4g63, and that it was something Hyundai had developed and Mitsubishi adopted. Does anyone know if this is factual, because if it is, all the better.
:ugh: or :naughty: either way that engine, or an engine modeled after that engine, means big big power.
4b11 NOT the legendary 4g63. It shares the evo x motor but has a smaller turbo and some other small differences. Obviously a weaker tune since the factory stated power #'s for the 2.0t are on 87 octane!! Get something like a Subaru's stage 1 tune that can up you to a minimum of 91 octane as your needed fuel and you'll extract more powerz right there. And since it is the 4b11, I'm sure you can already use some products like those from AMS, etc. If anyone watched the uscc, you wouldve seen a STOCK 4b11 with a 30r prototype kit on it making almost 500awhp take home the win. (it was an MR so it was auto!) now put that on rwd and have yourself a little slidewayz action!
I would think that if there are power packages out there to boost the V6 you would really have something, and high flow exhaust too...but I suppose you are getting into the realm of a supercharged American muscle then. If I was going that route I would just get a new Camaro or Challenger.
I think Hyundai had this planned out from the get go. They have covered both of JDM's best platforms from the import motorsport scene the V6 and 4 cyclinder playing fields. Offering the GenCoupe in both versions to compete in the light weight RWD class. The only thing they haven't done is the AWD sports car catagory. I guess the bar's been raised and its a waiting game to see if and when Toyota/Subaru will unveil their new RWD SC car. From what I've read Nissan has postponed theirs. A lot of muscle is always fun in a straight line, but without overall balance you are limited to just a one playground. The 4 cyclinders are always sweet to modify, but when you're completing with V8 & V10's on the road course's with elevation like RA on the uphill for example all that impressive WHP is not going to do much for you when your 4 cyc is only putting out a little more torque than half your whp.
I just wanted to bump this thread back, I don't know how many people are still interested, but there are some good material recently collected on this vehicle. Enjoy! http://www.gencoupe.com/general-discussion/15053-grimmspeed-driving-impressions-log.html
Sat in one at the hyundai dealership in brooklyn park off 81 (only one they had and was in their showroom). Had a nice sts and push-button start. Pretty sure the sales guy said it was the sport package 4-cyl. I'll probably make a night run just to steal the seats alone . My friend and I were there to look at a tiburon, but we couldn't stop drooling over the genesis. He was kinda interested, except for some financing issues. I will definitely try to convince him to get it!
Ok lookin. Someone on my nova forums posted on this car. LOL most hate the new camaro and really hated this car. Not sure on it have not seen what the price is for v6-v8 so i cant judge. Look nice tho.
For the money, the Genesis/Camaro rivalry is pretty interesting. The Camaro has the edge in power, but it's a heavy sucker. Still, I have to admit that if I were spending 30k on one or the other, I'd be getting a Camaro SS. A 425hp LS3 vs a 306hp V6 for the same price isn't much of a contest, especially when the weight difference is only a couple hundred pounds.
i wonder how this thing stacks up against the new mustang that beat out the camaro and challenger in some recent tests.
I think it'd probably be pretty close, from what I've heard the new Mustang is incredible in the interior department. The live rear axle versus an independent rear might hurt it a bit though. The Mustang will also be making more power and weigh about the same if not a little bit less.
Rear wheel drive coupes are my favorite vehicles in life. Its kind of cool to see this class of car have some new live breathing into it.
