Take it to bikerboy, figure out what needs to be done, get the REAL lowdown, then talk to MAP. It still sounds like incorrect assembly of the block.

I am in no was trying to start anything with another local shop. From the description given wether it is correctly understood by Flatline or wether it was properly explained by MAP it is not possible for the thrust potrion of the last bearing to fail before the main bearing portion. As I stated the oil is fed from the inside out.

We would be glad to examine the parts and give you our opinion. We already heard the car running and it sounds to our ears as every other failed rod bearing to date.

I totally understand what you are saying! i have nothing bad to say about MAP, they have been helpful in this situation, i gues it would be nice to have a second opinion tho. If/when i bring it down to you guys, how quick do you think you could get to it? i am in a slight "rush" to get my car back together, just kinda need it driving in about a month, should i give you guys a call to talk about this?

It is in the hands of matt at rs motors now, i dropped it off this morning, he started tearing it apart right away and showing me everything. all the rod bearing are done for and all the main bearings. the funny thing is, that map said all the bearings were good, yet they didn't even take the rods off the crank to inspect those. the crank itself is also gone, got totally screwed up by the thrust bearing.

    This sucks!

agreed. I'd be so pissed I'd probably get banned from MNSubaru with all the swear words....and to blame YOU for not sealing and torquing the access covers and galley plugs and such?

I don't want to get a war going with MAP and/or between MAP and RS....but damn Kevin, I can't beleive the BS you received initially.

    I'm so sorry for you......

If you didn't torque the plugs or the inspection cover properly, there would have been oil everywhere. As in all over the outside of the motor, or the clutch.

How the hell do the main bearings get torn up so bad? Were they in the wrong place or seriously undersized? That's strange. Did they spec the oil clearances at all?

Usually rod breaings are the ones that get torn up. The mains almost always look mint whenever I've torn a motor down.

My guess is too much RTV when they assembled the block, and or incorrect clearances.

Every single main that I've plastigauged has come out perfect. The RTV theory is possible, but damn, that's a lot.

Matt has a couple theories as to what could have been the cause, but until he digs into it more ans checks and measures everything, they are just theories, so i don't want to throw things out there right now.

Matt said he will get back to me later in the week and let me know what he finds out.

Might it be possible that MAP may have used an ACL bearing set with the extra oil gap, and not had a good enough pump to supply the pressure needed to run them?

That totally sucks for you man. I hope that the responsible builder steps up and admits what he needs to and does something to help you.

If you don't make any oil pressure, then the valve is stuck open.

An oil pressure gauge is always a good idea.
