Ok..so I fixed my wheel bearings and axles just a few weeks ago. I'm driving home from the cities and there's a loud grinding noise coming from underneath my car and I don't know what it is. The noise is loud, super loud. It sounds like something is grinding and/or rubbing. It gets louder and louder but I have no time to take a peak or have it looked at. THEN tonight as I'm driving home, whenever I put it into 1st gear and drive, it jumps a little and sounds like something is really loose and grinds. I don't know what it is, but I'll try to get a video of it up tomorrow. The noise is really terrible and I'm afraid it might be my transmission
, but I'm really hoping that we just did a bad job on our axles/wheel bearings lol. I don't know if anyone has had this problem before, or would know some sort of solution? And if it is my Tranny/Transfer case, anyone selling one? lol

Here is are some questions: does the noise increase with speed? Does it get worse as you go faster? Does the this happen with other gears?

I don't get why it's so hard for people to post details of the car they are driving...

This is a forum, it's not a guessing game. If you want help, you better be able to put together a post that contains all the information we're going to need to help you. If you're not able to do that, then we're not going to be able to help you.

I had that problem once when I did a rear wheel bearing. I thought it was in square enough but discovered on its removal that it was slightly askew. I re-did the bearing using a bit of grease while sliding in the new bearing (old one was toast) and made sure it was properly seated. That solved my problem.

ok sorry that i forgot to post my car haha. it's just a stock 2003 WRX Impreza. No mods what so ever. but the noise just gets to a higher pitch as you go higher in speed. and the jerk only happens in 1st gear, and sometimes in 2nd. I'm gonna try to get a video of all the different things happening later today.

Alright...so we looked at the car today. We have a good idea that's its somewhere along the lines of my tranny/differential/driveshaft. we're not really 100% sure yet...so i think it's time we open up my tranny :( anyone have a spare tranny for me? haha. it makes a loud grind and a big jerk when i release the clutch out of 1st gear, and there's a ton of noise everywhere after the car is in motion. so we figure its my tranny or somewhere around that. hopefully the fix won't be expensive..i'll post a video up as well. does someone know how expensive it will be to fix this problem?
