So, in case you didn't read about it yet, I avoided a deer on East Bush Lake Rd this past weekend, except my passenger front rim did a face-plant into a curb doing about 40 mph. Confirmed damage so far is the control arm, sway bar, fender, sway-bar, both front and rear rims, side-view mirror, and other cosmetic damage. Basically, the wheel is 5-6 inches moved to the rear from where it should be. The insurance adjuster is coming out tomorrow to check out the damage and give a base estimate. But, I'd like to get someone else's expertise on it. If anybody that has alot of experience with this kinda thing (hint hint Scuba Steve, Idget hint hint) and has tomorrow off, I will make it worth your time. I work from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, and the car is located in Bloomington (near Normandale and 494). Please PM me. Sonja is hurting, and it's making me hurt (yeah, I'm an emotional bastard when it comes to cars).
It's good to hear you are not hurt. The damage sounds extensive, it will be interesting to see what the adjuster says. Good luck!
sorry to hear this. It's just better to hit the bastards. They just stand there and stare and wait and then jump in your way again when you change course. They derserve death, alone, on the side of the road, hell... I'd get out of the car and urinate on their dirty deer carcus.
I don't know if they still do it, but for several years the City of Bloomington would have sharp shooters take deer along Nine Mile Creek. Always take the deer.
I've splatter-gutted one deer in my life, the damn thing came out of nowhere. (well, the ditch) I was also always taught to aim toward the deer, let off the gas and hope for the best.
sounds like Ojibwe rally! We did the same thing, except it was a rock. Control arm, tie-rods, ball joint, fender....all damaged. All easy stuff to repair, but as 3rik said, the entire front end/corner should be carefully inspected.
depending on the speed you are going and if your taking a corner... letting off the gas may be a very BAD idea Yes Carl it looks exactly like your wheel Caterday night at Ojibwe
I grew up in Bloomington and graduated in '06 and my buddies and I had a bike path we road on that had sharp shooter signs up. So I would assume the are still doing that.
This is kinda what I was looking for. Things that need to be mentioned to the adjuster and taken into consideration.
Progressive agent came out and setup the tow and shop (Hamline Auto) to get her repaired. He did notice that the roof had a small indent in it right above the passenger front window that was never there before... What kind of summers could I find brand-new from a tire store that would be at least decent for around $500 a set? I'm probably shootin' too low on the price, but what's recommended? That's the amount I'm guessing the insurance company will give me to replace them, and I'm trying to keep my money contribution to a minimum.
225/45/17 I'd personally recommend the Dunlop Direzza DZ101, or the Goodyear Eagle GT, for tires in stock @ discount. Kumho Ecsta ASX is also a good alternative. The Star Spec is an excellent tire, and its right in that price range as well, though it would have to be ordered, according to Discount Tire. I highly recommend the Star Spec for a summer only tire.
Yep, these look like the way to go at $117/ea: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...45WR7Z1SS&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes They won't be on the car long, since I'll switch to my Glacier II's in about a month or so. Hopefully they'll fit whatever new rims I'll get in the spring.
yeah they still do the sharpshooter thing...its actually really easy to qualify for, if you are a pretty good shot with your bow at 30 yards
Sorry to hear about your car! I took one out a number of years ago with a Ram 3500 crew cab. If you have to hit a deer, a big diesel pickup is the way to go. It's counter-intuitive, but always take the deer. It goes under Comprehensive instead of Collision from what I've heard. Either way, glad to hear that you weren't hurt!
$200?? And Tim, there's a case of Killians in your fridge to help with that neck. Got the base estimate from the Hamline Autobody. Just under $6k. Quick list of damage: Bumper scratches Fender (replacing) Control arm Lower and upper sub-frame Tie-rods Sway-bar Oil pan dented Front and rear wheels (being replaced with remanufactured ones) Tires (they were gonna retread the new tire to the same depth as the other three, but convinced them they were craptacular, and they will be throwing in about $500 towards a new set) Roughly 2 weeks before I get her back. As for the roof indentation, they didn't think it was caused by the collision, but they will be running a laser-line? along the frame to be sure nothing's out of place. There's no way the dent was there before the accident, so it had to be from the impact. To be continued..
6k and you didnt even take the deer out. I would be dissapointed lolz. So where do you sign up to be a archery sharp shooter haha. I used to be pretty good with my Hoyt but now I switched to BowTech, havent had a chance to even shoot it yet.
the roof dent could be from my massive dome flying through it brian tell your insurance company they need to send over a hot lil nurse to administer the killians... or im sueing HEELLLLOOOOOOO NURSE!
metro bowhunters at http://mbrb.org/mbrb/ the proficiency test is pretty much put 5 of 6 arrows in a pie plate at 30 yrds
Hitting curbs is supposed to be reserved for winter time. Did the insurance company doubt that you were swerving for a deer or did they take your word for it?
Took my word for it, and Tim was obviously a witness. Tim, if they get you a nurse, I'm getting a hottie in a swimsuit to wash Sonja. Girl on girl(car) action FTW!
Just got to see the progress this morning. They are just waiting for the door, fender, and bumper to get painted, then they'll put the wheel back on and get her aligned and test drive it. Crossing my fingers I'll have her back tomorrow, and that they don't find anything else wrong.
