hey rich maybe you could put this webcam link on the first page so we can easily find it, and that sucks you have that much snow on very thin ice, that will make some crappy ice

So i just finished watching last years ice race video (3x) and dang nabbit i cant wait any longer!!!!

 

done..last year was the same, lake froze and then we got a bunch of snow and there still was good ice, so hopefully this year will be good too

 

woot that picture got me really excited about the race. Especially because my car is in the paint booth right now

keeping everybody on their toes. I actually got down there and I reflipped a coin on the spot.

but yeah. I now have no choice in the matter and it feels great.

definately excited to see how it turns out. You'll probably be one of the first mnsubaru guys to see the car as its coming straight out of paint on friday and down to your shop. let me know what time i should be showing up, ive got all day free.

im also kind of sad to see that the snow at deer lake is meeeeelting.

 

its good that the snow is melting, the less snow the faster it makes ice

I guess I was just hoping for a whole mess of snow on or before my birthday, heh. mother nature jips me every year.

So what kind of tire do you need for studs and how hard is it to do? The cheapest I have found new so far is about $100 for studded tires but for the little use they are going to get I can not see spending that much.

 

im just going to use atv studs, 60 bucks for 1000 studs. they work ok, the only problem is that they screw in and after a while they start to pull out.I will have to use a quart of green slime in each tire

AH! the snow is gone!

looks like its finally going to cool down, single digits for the weekend

 

I went out on the lake today, there 3-4 inches of ice near the shores and about 3 inches farther out

 

there was a group of people out on tonka this afternoon with sea kayaks paddling through the ice.

Looked like a lot of fun actually. Saw them do a couple of rolls. hope all the gaskets on their wetsuits fit snug. ::shiver::

 

supposed to be inteh 20s for the rest of the week down here. that means it gonna be -100 in orr, so there should be some ice being made.

 

heh..... -100. Thats in celsius, right

 

No -100K... and yes I know Kelvins do not go below zero...

 

^ exactly. point is its gonna be hella cold up there, so i am projecting 24" of ice being made per hour.

^^^ we should start a list of who is going when and leaving from where. Looking at the maps I am wondering about taking 169 most of the way north but am not sure if that is best or not. From here distance wise it looks shortest but may not be fastest.

ok... can we organise leaving times for both thursday and friday groups... that way I can work out whether i go on thursday afternoon or go up friday morning/afternoon...

also what is the best way to go from teh cities???

depending when my buddy is off work I may go thursday??? but probably early friday...

 

i will be going on thrusday as well, hoping to caravan with the dreamis and petis

 

I am thinking I will leave on Thursday. Maybe a caravan up if I can hook up with some people.

 

with people leaving thurs and fri during the day it might be difficult to get many people together who have to work on friday. last year it was a solid group which left forest lakes.

who all is working on friday? perhaps we can still have a working mans caravan.
