Where do you guys get them for Your STi Is it worth actually going ceramic?I've read a bit on NASIOC on a good write up. I'm just wondering whats the best bang for your buck on a good set for front and back **EDITED BY READYMIX** "it's BRAKE pads"
I'd look at Hawk brake pads, I have the Hawk HP pads and really like them. They don't produce the brake dust like most pads, they do squeek sometimes but that is about the only negative thing that I can think of.
I like Hawk. The HP pads are great (from what I have heard). I have the HP+ pads for most of the summer/fall. They are great.. but make noise from the brake dust (which there is a lot of). So it depends on what you are doing with your car. Are you 100% DD or are you going to be doing Track, AutoX etc?
I'll want to try a track someday but it'll be a daily driver for sure. I really don't want break dust they get pretty dirty fast.
If you are looking at Hawk, I would suggest the HP pads (what Bro said) over what I have (HP+)..... They are better for DD and should hold up fine for the occasional track visit. I also know that people like Stop Tech... but I know nothing about them. My advice, hit up Josh @ Import Image Racing for the best price on pads.
+1 for hawk pads, I daily drive my 04 and have been using the HPS line of pads for nearly 30,000miles now with minimal dust during normal driving. these are paired with cheap Chinese no brand rotors and it has been a good fit so far.
How much are you looking to spend? Cause pads for STI's are not going to be cheap. But the more important question is what are your intentions with your car? If you're looking for just DD and don't want the hassle of frequent cleaning then get the local stuff at the stores. If you want to play and play hard then you're gonna have to cough up a bit more money to get less squeak and squeaky clean. Something like Raybestos ST43 Pads will set you back about +$264. Here's the thing don't buy brakes that are more aggressive then your tires. It's okay to buy brakes less aggressive then your tires but not the other way around. You'll find out the hard way when the tires lock up and that also applies to your track tires as well. The silver bullet is don't use your brakes. I'm not kidding, if you've decided to buy something like an STI who's sole purpose in life is to be driven you'll have to except the responsibility of brake dust hygiene. I still remember at the first MAP event when Fuji spent the first 20 mins whipping down his wheels instead of setting up his car. Now that's love.
Sorry I agree with dmoo.... HPS not HP in my previous post. (HP+ is a lot of dust and noise but better for tracking)
Hit up Mark at Frozen rotors. He will get you a MNSubaru deal on all your brake parts. Best part, is they are located just down in Burnsville, and you can go pick up everything right at their shop. Russ
Russ, thank you for using the proper "their". This may only be the second or third time I have ever seen this on the internet, and it has made my day.
I've been running the Stop Tech for 2 years on my WRX. I've been really happy with them. No noise, low dust, good stopping and pedal feel. I've got 2 full seasons of autocross on them and a HPDE track day at Brainerd. They got hot, but I didn't loose much pedal feel. For a daily driver with possible go fast stints, these are what I would recommend.
