Rear bumper also fits great for knock off aero and time for a BJ BRAKE JOB next up is to make lines from the master to the hydro and new lines to the front calipers
Damn, this car isn't even mine and I am in love...... I really cant wait to see it when its all said and done.
I did new O rings, filters, caps, and seals on all the injectors Made up some fuel lines and re installed the aem FPR and rail Also the painless fule pump relay kit is mounted and needs a 12v source Last night Patrick stopped by and we went thrugh a bunch of wiring and it seems to be all together! That and the cooling system is all together! Radiator mount made, sensor for water temp gauge is in, ordered fans, stuff for the battery relocation stuff, kill switch ect. I am going to hit the garage and work for a while today and get a fan shroud made, make more brake lines, put the cash/center council back in the car. My plan at this point will be to have the car started and running by the end of next week as long as all of the parts show up!
Radiator shroud, and ill be able to trim this for the IC pipes when its time Painted the front IC mount and the fuel cell mounts, i do not want them to start rusting
so i bought a welder the other day (MIG 125 wire feed) and i started working on making a bumper support for the 86 My First attempts to weld brackets on the frame rails Horizontal Support under the bumper piece Tacked into place with the bumper on i may add onto this, or make a new one, i still need to have zip ties to hold up the bumper, i would like to make a new one that dose not need anything to hold the bumpers up
Are you using gas or flux? Also, from what I can see in the pics try drawing slow circles when you are making the bead. Penetration looks good from the coloring, but if you slow down and draw loops/circles you will be really pleased!
yup! that is what i was told when i put some other photos on FB and IG, it is a Gas welder, i need to practice more, i just tossed this together for fun i guess you would say, i am planning on making a better one this winter out of thicker medal
I would love to learn how to weld. The only way is a **** ton of practice. This car will be really fun when its finished!
well i hope to drive DD50 in one month, it will be close but it will be awesome! also in the time since i posted last the car has new rear suspension ( Swift springs and AGX shocks) also all of the wires have been replaced, all new (to me) OEM 1987 GTS harnesses as well as the fuel system is fully installed (AN Line to and from with AEM FPR, Walbro 255 and edelbrock 1000micron filter) in the front i did a GTS brake conversion, new tension rods and NRCA + new hardware for the lower strut mount. also made new ground wires and installed my bucket seat! at this point the car cranks but i have no spark, ( i need grounds going to the ignitor and coil) and a new battery, but after that i should be good to go!
well i did not drive DD 50 but BOOM i finally took her for a short spin! now to figure out why my dash dose not work, and i have no headlights/tail lights!
Looks mean with no hood but the headlights up, I like it You could go for the ratrod 'patina' look, I kinda dig the way it looks right now instead of painted all purty
Yep, welding needs more practice, I cringed at the pictures of what you put on the car. One thing I like to do on thinner metal, such as exhaust piping, is what I call "mig-tigging". Instead of trying to lay down MIG beads and adding too much heat, I just string tack welds together. The ever so slight pause between tacks is enough to control your heat, and if you're consistent enough, it can fool some people into thinking you TIG welded the part. Looks like a fun car!
dont worry the car will have paint, and its hood on next spring when i am streeting/drifting the car. nothing i hate more than ****ty looking drift cars
Well i am signed up for DD51 at the end of April so i need to hurry and get this thing done! Drilled out the holes for the rosette welds Cleaned up the frame in the rear and removed the fuel pump inplace and lets start welding!! and its all welded in! next up is to grind them all down and paint it as soon as it gets nice out!
i added a little fuel pump / cell protection yesterday but bending up a sheet of 16G steel drilled a few holes in it to mount the pump and to mount it to the new floor of the car i also drilled a hole for the fuel pump wires and tossed a grommet in there so the wires don't run through! now to finish up wiring in the gauges and i am ready for DD51!
True dat. Now if my fleet could just make me some money! Whip is lookin good D! You should bring that bad boy to LaCrosse for the cruise! I'm working on getting Sam Henry down there with the LS swap also.
I would love to, but I don't have redgastration for the car at the moment, I still have some paperwork to do before I can get it on the road
Well I made a new bash bar, this one I can stand on! And now I have all of my aero fitted for the first time
well she is all ready for the DD this weekend! IMG_3105 by straitup_d, on Flickr IMG_3103 by straitup_d, on Flickr IMG_3100 by straitup_d, on Flickr IMG_3097 by straitup_d, on Flickr
I drove ClubFR's DD51 at USAir in shawano,WI and, it was RAD!! it was so awesome to finally drive the car a bit and stretch its legs! it did take me a while to get back into the grove with the car. for the first half of the day i was on the "doughnut" corse out in the parking lot, but it felt good to relearn some of the basics! after lunch i went out to the intermediate track and it was a little rough re learning the track but i had a blast! Photos! this is the beginner track in the parking lot i did have an issue that when the car was at lock it would brake the zipties and i would loose my front bumper :/ On the i intermediate corse and in the pits the next weekend i went to an open track day at elko! it was super tight as i have been to a lot of track days there but i have never driven there! at first i was all like!!! Then i unloaded the car and got on track! it was awesome! until my fuel pump suddenly stopped working and the car died on me, so i was dead on the track and as i was sitting waiting for a tow off of the track the pump kicked back on, so i loaded the car back up and headed home! and then i was all
I made the trek out to Shawano agin for DD53, had a BLAST! Other than some oil leaking from the drivers side axel seal it had been running amazing!
