January 7-8th 2006 (MN SUBARU ICE RACING/ SNOWMOBILE TRIP)

I'll be using all of mine! I can barely do 50 in 5th Lo...that should be interesting, although I probably won't be able to hit the same speeds as Rich...

my second goes 40-60, power wise. so i might actually be in first alot too!

 

i'm guess almost all of us will be in first a good majority of the time.

 

It's a crazy track! I have automatic but I drove it in 1st and 2nd gear for more power and didn't go much higher than that except for the straight stretch in the beginning. I think Rich is going to add another piece onto the course with more of a straight stretch and he said something about plowing a big area out just so we can all goof around on the ice. I told him I'll do the stopwatch so everyone can see what kind of times we're all running too. It's going to be lots of fun! Can't wait!!

 

He should make a big circle so we can practice drifting around it. Another good piece to have on a track is a biiiiig sweeper of some sort where you can gain some speed but you're still sideways

 

I have a camera mount that clamps onto the 2 bars supporting the driver and passenger seat headrests in most subaru cars. I'll be bringing that so we should be able to get some cool in car video with it

 

^right on. did you make it or buy it? thats exactly what i've been looking for.

 

as of right know there is no more room, My parents might open up 1 more cabin if there are any more people who would like to come, but this cabin will be $35 a night. Its the newest and nicest cabin we have, its cabin #5 on our website. If anyone who is staying in a different cabin that may want to stay in this one please let me know soon.

I dont think many people will hit 50mph, I did in one spot. I drove in mostly 2nd gear.
Im going to make a seperate track with some long and wide corners so we can do some drifting

 

you break it, you sink it, you buy it, but other wise I am cool with it

the camera mount was made by a friend of mine... If you have access to some basic power tools you, or someone you know, can probably make one pretty easily... I'll let you guys check it out at the race... It shouldn't be hard to replicate

Also, I just checked out the website for your resort, the cabins look super nice!! I'm even more excited now

I just talked to another of my friends who said he'd come for sure (drives a mazda 323 GTX). I know all the cabins are booked already, but he said he didn't mind sleeping on the floor in cabin #1... Will that pose any problems? His name is Mitch and he JUST registered on this site so he still needs to get approved before he can post. He should be on here in a day or two though....

 

jason...you can run a lap or 2 in my car if you'd like (anyone can.....for that matter), but it's incredible lack of swaybars will probably take some getting used to

anyway, I'm looking forward to running against him... the only thing that worries me a bit is he's running WS-50s and we're running wintersport M2/M3's which are hardre compound and not as sticky on ice... oh well... we'll see what happens

 

scratch that bit about mitch coming.... his mazda just crapped the bed again and he won't be able to make it to the event... Sorry for the false alarm kelly (and everyone else) The rest of the Houghton, MI crew will still be coming though

sooooo....I've got this buddy....who doesn't drive a subaru.....but has a for conversion van, and snowmobiles, that wants to come. He's perfectly willing to sleep on the floor, or in his van. And he's got a big trailer, so he could probably bring a few more sleds with him....(his trailer's bringing my car down today)

 

Thats fine, the more the merrier!

 

I also have a buddy thats coming up and doesnt drive a subaru, he drives a van that will be pulling a 91 cellica all-trac

how thick is the ice these days Rich? Also, what time and where is everyone planning to meet for the caravan to the resort?

 

there is 14 inches of ice, I widened the course a little today so it will be a little easier to run without hitting the banks

 

What has the weather been like up there? I was just in Detroit Lakes, MN and it was warm, there was actually open water right by shore all around the lake, but there was still 7-9 inches of ice on the lake which is down from the 12-14 they had.

 

hey Rich, i was just thinking we should maybe put a list of potluck items and who plans to bring what on the first post, since we are getting pretty close to the event. I'll volunteer to bring pop if that works, just need some suggestions on what kinds to get

 

theres alot of ice, nothing has melted. There still is 7 inches of snow on the lake. I will start a list tomorrow on items that people are bringing to eat. How many people eat fish?? if a bunch of people do I can go get some fish the day before and we can have a fish fry also

well, my family's having a big reunion that weekend (ug), so if someone comes up with a big enough bribe, I may have to go, but the chances of that are slim....this is going to kick arse!!

my buddy willl most likely take the other opening if it's not already taken...and if he comes, he'll have trailer space for other sleds!

 

I'm with Sam, but fish is tasty! What kind of fish are you expecting to pull out of the lake?
