wait hold on now who did the last oil change? Someone might have drained the tranny fluid and might have over filled the engine?

Was it a certified vehicle? If so, take it thru SOA. If not, call up St. Cloud Subaru and have them worry about it.

How do I find out if it was certified?

That should have been a selling point of the car. It should also have been on the window stickers when you bought the car.

Well first off, the selling dealer should be able to tell you if any oil change was done. NOT another dealer in MN. Brooklyn Park and St. Cloud are not affiliated with each other, so they don't share records unless requested.

Subaru recommend the oil be changed every 3,750 miles whether it's synthetic or not. If you want the warranty to stay intact (from the time you bought it) you should keep any and all service records you have.

The trans (without a leak) will not drain itself of fluid. If it were completely empty, it would not be able to move at all. It may have been really dirty fluid, but once again...without a leak (or some other mechanic emptying it out and not refilling it) it can't be empty. If it really were empty, the selling dealer should have caught it on a used vehicle inspection.

I would be skeptical to think that the trans would really be empty if you have owned it for 3 or more months. They don't last long at all with no fluid, nor do they like to move.

You should take it somewhere reputable and have it looked over for any other issues. Dirty oil isn't the end of it's life, as long as it wasn't running low.

I can assure you this is not the case. Before he did the oil change he noticed the tranny fluid and said "Oh my god, your mom has barely any tranny fluid left; she should not drive it and take it in right away" so thats what we did.

Did you or whoever checked it check it properly? Car warm, idling in Park on a level surface?

The car is currently running OK with the new tranny fluid in it.

He gets off work in a half an hour, I can ask him. I am sure it was on a lvl surface because he was conducting an oil change and it was drove to walmart to buy the oil and back to the house right before it was done, if that helps.

Yes, but the car should be running, and in park or N. Otherwise the pump isn't circulating the fluid and the level reading would be VERY skewed?

And if its operating well, why is the title of the thread "tranny went out!"?

I would follow Driftin240's advice about having a reputable shop give it the once over for safe measure.

Yes, it would show to the naked eye most of the time in darkened fluid. For this to happen in under 20K it would have to have been quite bad tho.

I have the service record for BP SUBY from today. Looks like they put in "QTY of 5" ATF HP and a new gasket. They found no leaks.
