This is kinda scary seance jokingly i made a post about ken block driving for Ford when i Post the You Tube video of him driving the Ford Escort MK II at the O'Neil. Looks like that post title could come true... http://www.autoblog.com/2009/10/15/report-ken-block-heading-to-wrc-with-new-monster-ford-team/ http://www.wrc.com/jsp/index.jsp?ln...kinson+tight-lipped+about+Monster+opportunity
Well, i doubt he'd get into the WRC with Subaru. lol But like that article said, theres more talk about him running the team than driving for them, at least for now. **edit, I just read the autoblog article. But I don't believe them haha.
Fiesta Gymkhana??? i dont think it would be as exciting imo. Awesome that he wants to go on and his driving skills should certainly be utilized somewhere but i just cant see him behind the wheels of a ford... mountain lab 2.0 with a fiesta jumping next to snowboarders? i wonder if ford would even support him in ventures like that? IF, these aritcles hold water, is gymkhana 2.0/2.1 the last we'll see of our beloved Ken Block putting his shenanigans on youtube for us? Only time will tell i guess....
Not WRC Material if you ask me.... he needs to learn to drive consistently, these periodical events of greatness, space out by incredible wrecks and verious stupid ****... and his ninnypouting after he biffs it.... ahhh **** it, WRC can have him....hell, FORD CAN HAVE HIM FOR ALL I CARE!
quoted for the truth.... however the late great Colin always seemed to be wrecking cars too, but still dont think anyone can really put them on the same level and as far as bashing the Ford rally line, I think you would be suprised to see how the Ford Focus RS WRC does against an sti. An atleast Ford kept a team in WRC as to Subaru leaving...
when is Subie getting back into WRC? Their sales have been fine so they are not hurting in that department like most all the other manufacturers.
It didn't have anything to do with sales, it had to do with the rules concerning the cars themselves. Subaru couldn't put out a car that complied with the rules and still be competitive, so they pulled out. Why throw millions into something if you're not going to have anything to show for it?
people must forget that Ford was in Rally a long time before Subaru came on teh scene... Cosworth ring a bell.. MK1 and MK2 escorts???
And with the WRC moving to Super 2000-esque rules, Subaru still won't have anything, since they lack an inline 4 with a transverse mounted gearbox What a wonderful job the FIA have done turning the WRC into a two horse race. Don't forget, WRC is not the only game in town. Subaru still runs strong in GrpN/PWRC circles, with plenty of Subarus competing in many rallies the world over, e.g. http://www.mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?p=664726. Stuart.
WRC is pretty, but Rally America has event WE CAN ATTEND, my advice to Ken Block... GO FOR IT! It will save SRT USA tons of money if you'd just go!
I'm pretty sure SRT USA isn't losing money by having Block around. In fact, he's just as big a draw as Pastrana is for merchandise sales, if not more so.
Meh... to the popularity contest.... they are drivers in cars, cars have to cross finish lines to win Ken Block FTL.
Block has done plenty of that as well, they wouldn't have signed him otherwise. They don't hand out that "Rookie of the Year" award for nothing, and he's had plenty of podiums to his credit against very, very talented drivers. Are you still mad because he crashed out at Ojibwe?
Really Nate? the RS200 (not RS 2000) is pretty much the coolest car ford has ever made... I cant think of a single ford i would rather own. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_RS200
he seems to crash quite frequently at all Ralleys.... especialy Ojibwe.... and he pouts a sulks like a LOOSER.
^ idk, i think i would have to take the car that held the 0-60 record for a over a decade instead of the gt40....
I'm an endurance racing fan, so the GT40 is one of those cars that has always fascinated me. Put the two of them side by side and I'm pretty sure that the GT40 is going to make up the 0-60 deficit pretty quickly. It's not lacking in horsepower by any means Putz, we'll have to agree to disagree. Block is one of the most talented drivers in the Rally America series. At that level, wrecks happen. The guy is human, but he's also a very competitive guy and if he crashes out, I can understand why he'd be pissed about it. There are drivers like that in every race series. What sets him apart in my mind is how much more approachable, fan friendly and down to Earth he is. He's done more in recent years than most to bring visibility to the sport and to Subarus than a lot of people, and Rally America and rallying in general is that much better for it.
http://www.rally-america.com/champ_standings2.php?&yr=2009&pid=2248&Champ=0&Endo=1&Class=0 his current standings Ken block above at 66 points.... MEH.... Below Travis!!!! at 129 points!!!! now that is a driver! http://www.rally-america.com/champ_standings2.php?&yr=2009&pid=1141&Champ=0&Endo=1&Class=0 proof that crossing that finish line is a goal Ken Block should set for himself! Disagree with that?:dunno::wiggle:
I'm sure Block and his company bring lots of cash to the team, so it would not be wise to lose big buck sponsors. plus he is great to watch and adds to the mix!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Block_(rally_driver) 4 DNF 3 1st place finishes 2 5th place finishes Mehh.... check out the DNF in 2008 rally America score card... looks pretty sad, Block can go to WRC, Maybe Subaru will find anouther real driver..... And I'm done bashing Block, the last two years he has been full of suck.... and good ridence **EDIT** I have one nice thing to say about Block, He designes some damn nice shoes....
QFT eff mitsu and their unreliable nasty abominations. I woundn't mind if block ran with ford hell thats awesome. Then again im a fan of Subies and fords. I really would LOVE an escort cosworth mmmmmmm :yumyum: fast little machines right there
Like I said, the guy is human. Also, rallying isn't easy by any means. It can come down to luck as much as anything else. Did you bother checking to see which of those races he had to retire due to mechanical issues? Olympus he was having issues with the turbocharger, Oregon they broke a control arm after hitting a rock (which could happen to anyone) and Colorado they lost the engine. So he crashed at SnoDrift and Ojibwe, and he's never had good luck at Ojibwe. You may want to do some more reading before you start saying he crashes out of every rally. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that crossing the finish line for a podium finish is already his goal. If you're such a good driver then why aren't you out there beating him? Seriously? You're going to Google Pastrana vs Block DNFs and count the returns as a valid argument? Come on, I thought you were better than that.
Havign a big name from SRT USA going to WRC might revitalize the US WRC following. Which is currently plenty strong but having a large name personality joining it would definitely draw more attention to the WRC. It is too bad that Subaru is done with the WRC. I think it was terribly stupid of them to change the rules as they have done in the past few years, virtually eliminating many competitors. I thought I heard something about a different world rally scene coming up though, supposedly Monte Carlo has signed w/ this new thing instead of the WRC. Does anyone know any more about this.
Travis is damn lucky then! Anyway.... I wouldn't even beat him in a foot race. Sure he is talanted, His shoes are pretty, and his gymkhana videos rule! But face it, in racing results matter, and he either finishes in a dramatic fasion in 1st, or he DNFs. That is how he races, this year he happens to have DNF'd-up alot, and last year too.
i've read every post in here.. interesting. but what is most interesting is you two nancys talking about which ford is better. RS200..no. GT40, so hot, and my favorite exotic car. but still no. practical and rare and still sexy with the get down yes. it says it all. introducing: on another note, why doesnt subaru have ken block race for their road racing team. i mean if it really matters what car he drives, their legacy is the only car they use for their sponsored SRRT, but there are plenty of stis road racing. he could just do that. if road racing isnt his cup of soup then boot him off the contract then. im sure we will all be sad but whatever. its business.
Why would Ken Block or Subaru want to have him switch to road racing? His forte is rallying, it wouldn't make any sense to put him in a road racing series. As far as which Ford is better, I'd take an RS200 over a Cosworth in a heartbeat.
LOL @ you Mitsu haters. My wife's '07 WRX has had more failed factory parts after 30k miles than my '06 Evo IX after 40k miles, and the Evo is far more modded. The Evo's never been in to the dealership for warranty work and the WRX has been 3 or 4 times already.
Word. I saw a rally version for sale once at Harrah's in Las Vegas. Longitudinal, mid-mounted four-cylinder...check Ridiculously huge turbo...check (8) coilover dampers...check
Don't worry. Subarus are the new DSM. Go have a bunch of idiots mod either car and then see which make is more reliable. It's all a wash in the end. Some people can make 600hp for years, yet others cannot handle a stage 2 car.
As if Ford needs anymore drivers and cars in WRC. LOL Personally I don't care what mr. Block ends up driving, all that's important is we now have a US driver driving a US manufacture car in WRC. Now lets see just how many more hits U-tune/WRC will get if this becomes a reality. I would think his success on the tube had something to do with this and WRC is probably looking to benefit from it to help draw more interest. Hopefully we start seeing just a few less minutes of Nascar on Speed from this, but I'm not holding my breath. LOL
