Another interesting article for those who have been dreaming about the next gen.. https://www.carthrottle.com/post/the-next-subaru-wrx-may-not-have-a-boxer-engine/
That article and several like it are shining examples of out of context journalism. Both speakers were specifically referring to the EJ dinosaur and how that will finally be retired if you read the entire transcript of the interview. Pretty confident that the new car will use a variant of the FA24 from the Ascent and electric motor. No way a totally electric car, ridiculous. What would they do with all of their "Proud of Boxer" livery and marketing? LOL
I'm actually surprised that the hatch isn't back yet...if you look at the rest of the car market right now, everyone and their grandma is releasing hatches/wagons/midsized SUV's. Look around the next time you're on the road...sedans are outnumbered 2 to 1. Concept photos are "fun" and all, but if you want to know what the next WRX/STI is actually going to look like, take this: Add some fender flares, quad exhaust, and a hood scoop and that is your next gen WRX/STI. History has a tendency to repeat itself...the 2012 Impreza got a redesign while the WRX remained the same. 3 years later in 2015, the WRX got a redesign that is based on the 2012 Impreza. Then the 2017 Impreza got a redesign, while the WRX remains the same. Guess what, in another 3 years (2020), I'll put my nickels on the WRX getting a redesign that looks strikingly similar to the 2017 Impreza redesign. I hope I'm wrong because the 2017 Impreza doesn't look that great, but like myself and the rest of the fan bois, we'll be pissed off about the design when the 2020 launches, we'll get over it in ~6 months, and we'll all be obsessed with the newest WRX again. History repeats itself
That just resembles the 2015-2017. I always thought that GD was 2001/2-2007(5-6yrs), the GR was 2008-2014(6yrs), the ?? is 2015-2020(ish?). Should be due for another facelift in 2020/2022. There may be subtle differences between the ‘15 and ‘17, but nothing like the 2014 to 2015 change. Or the 2007-2008 change for that matter.
True, the older ones did run for 5-6 years, but the WRX "split" from the Impreza when the 2012 model came out: https://www.themotorreport.com.au/c...split-from-the-impreza-line-report-73828.html Regarding the 2015 vs 2017 Impreza, there was actually a significant change: the 2017 Impreza is the first model on Subaru's new global platform. I actually had one as a rental last fall...it was the smoothest (and quietest) Subaru that I've driven (although the new outbacks are pretty darn good too...but those aren't on the global platform yet). I need to quit nerding out on Subaru's Here nor there, I'm still guessing that the new WRX will be very similar to the Impreza design.
Oh, comparing the 2015-2017 Imprezas. I thought that we were talking WRX/STI’s. 2015 2017 If this is all that you’re referring to, then you lost me. I stopped paying attention when the WRX and STi cut ties to them. 2015 Simpreza 2017 Simpreza I guess they look “mildly” different. If anything, looks wise, i may have liked the 2015 better. That 2017 is quite possibly one of the ugliest Subarus that i’ve seen.
I liked this rendering more, I'm sure everyone has seen it. But now you got Mazda on my mind and I can't get it out...
They have said to different sources now that they are committed to something very like this design for what that's worth. Whatever the outcome people will gripe and then there will be a waiting list because they can't make them fast enough.
Nah. I’m going to get a storage container and stock up on a few older models. I’m old enough that I only need enough to get me dead. Which is just a couple few. I’ll be damned if I ever end up in a hybrid cvt wrx/sti
I hear ya. I know I will end up getting the new one but I ponder at least twice a day and scour the internets for a clean CWP GR..
