Looking for feedback on if any local dyno tuners are doing 09+ wrx's, specifically, yet. I'd hate to be a guinnie pig. I personally am looking to do a real basic tune at this point on stock everything. I have read about some good results on a stock 09 setup. (car stiil under factory warranty and want to keep it that way if possible for the time being)
A stage 1 tune (ie; a tune with stock parts) is a massive improvement over stock. Stock Subaru tunes are absolutely horrible.
One thing I love about the stage 1 sti and 09+wrx, you can really gain something out of it. Plus really fun to drive around (compare to the stock crap tune)
So in order to do that, do you suggest getting a Cobb AP or do an Opensource tune? I have minimal knowledge about either besides the basics and what I have read on forums. If I do the AP, that has pre mapped settings that I can switch between correct? Would I get much gain from that or would open source be better? Or is that more for stage2+ tunes? any light shed or a really good link is much appreciated. Thanks. PS.. what would you guys, Bull or nuke, charge for a stage1 tune and how long would it take?
I only tune open-source. If you want an AP tune, you can ask Nuke, or go to DB Performance for a dyno tune. Yes, the only real benefit of the AP is the ability to switch between maps. http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35205
I run open source on my 08. I'm running an OTS stage 1 tune from a tuner on 3gWRX.com, Eimenhart. People over there like his OS tunes better than the XPT ots maps (which i haven't tried). I beta tested this map for him so the final was free! The difference certainly is incredible. The improved throttle response alone is worth it. I'll be looking for a tuner in the area when I get my VF52 swap, so let me know who you go with and how you like it!
getting a stage 1 tune on my 09 wrx next week. I will have bullwinkle post up the info when we get it done!
Pending parts (already in the mail), I hope to be stage 2 by April. Congrats on the tune, can't wait to see the numbers.
