Hi all, I bought the SRP gas pedal cover shown below on right which was designed for the BRZ, intending to use it on my pre-08 Impreza because a) it's exactly what I was looking for in terms of design (matches stock but with an extension on left side) and b) I figured from the pic that Subaru re-used the same pedal design, in their typical cost-cutting style :) However, when I got the pedal cover I and compared it to my now-removed OEM aluminum cover, I realized that the hole spacing is different even though the hole count is the same. Also the BRZ pedal is more curved than the Impreza pedal. Any machinists on here interested in helping me make this style of pedal cover for the pre-08 Impreza? I have the OEM aluminum cover and pedal for reference, along with the BRZ pedal from SRP. I talked to Brian, who owns SRP, and he doesn't have a problem if I use his design as inspiration. I'm willing to help out with measurements and CAD if that helps, I just don't have any CNC equipment. It might even be able to be waterjet from a 2-3mm Al plate and then bent (radiused), because the pedal is pretty close to flat. Maybe other folks here would be interested in getting these made up too, if that would help amortize the setup costs - please chime into this thread and indicate your interest so that we can get a count going. Also, I have a BRZ gas pedal cover for sale cheap, once this project is finished! I may just give it away if someone asks nicely. Thanks in advance, Eric
Brian at SRP already offers this kit for 3 covers that overlay the stock rubber pedals (plus a dead pedal), would that work for you? I'm just a weirdo and want to keep the pedals looking stock, except with an extended gas pedal cover Also FYI the gas pedal cover is normally smooth even if you order the other covers scored/gridded/etc, so that your foot can slide across it smoothly for heel/toe instead of catching.
Last time someone asked for CNC work on here, it turned into a pissing contest. But I know a guy lol I'll msg you his info. He made some CNC'd block off plates for me.
I know, read that thread when I was searching the forum for posts about CNC work. I was hoping this one would turn out better, that's why I included a lot more detail about the scope of work
I'm a CNC machinist. I've been programming and running class A parts for years. I can't work on my car to save my life though lol So you want these covers to look like the one shown above on the left? (Without the extra material extending to the left).
Thanks Matt, actually the opposite - the part on the left is an OEM gas pedal cover, it's pretty thin aluminum and it sits on the gas pedal itself (which has a rubber cover with round grip bumps that poke a little through the holes in the aluminum cover). What I want to do is make a replacement cover that looks like the one on the right - pretty much the same shape as the OEM cover except it's a little wider all around, and with a bump-out on the left hand side. The 'grip' holes need to be in the same place as the OEM, and then two screw holes need to be added to secure the cover to the stock pedal. The OEM pedal & cover have a curve to them, not sure at the moment if it's in one plane or two, but I have the stock pieces to measure.
Any curves, I usually surface machine or 3d machine them in but that is not practical in this case. We could bend them after machining them flat.
Yeah, that sounds about right. Are you serious about being interested in giving this a shot? If so, maybe shoot me a PM and we could figure out some times to meet up and look at the parts!
the reason the other thread turned into a pissing match is because the op seemingly came into it with no idea of how to get what he wanted with a very vauge discription of what it was he wanted. You did a good job with your op and have shown willingness to make this happen and a understanding that it will prob not be cheap to do. So your thread will turn out much better then the other one. just my .02
