If anyone could help me diagnos the problem with my 02 wrx that would be great. First off..

    - When shifting to 2,3,4, and 5 the car lags until around 2 1/2 to 3 thousand rpms and then struggles to keep the power going.

    - When in 5th gear the car loses power and then backfires.

    - When running at a higher rpm about 4 thousand and up the car will run fine.

    thanks,

    Derek.

What kind of intake? Because to me it sounds like it could be a dirty MAF sensor.

Brake parts cleaner also works. Just don't use throttle body cleaner, it leaves a slight film.

Also just remembered that those had a problem with the filter popping off if there was any oil was not cleaned off the clamping surface of the filter and pipe. In other words, did you open your hood and see if your filter is still on?

went over there.. drove with Derek... came back.. nothing seemed to look wrong, until we noticed the silicone hose between the throttle body and inter-cooler looked split or something... reseated it, (so we thought) drove it, it seemed better... but still some hesitation..

Derek is going to get either another piece of tubing/hose or a stock one (this is Mike Wagners old car (His Dad))... also sprayed the MAF with some brake (not break) clean to make sure.. it wasnt dirty but did it as a precaution/elimination thing...

He is going to Disconnect the battery, (clear learning), replace the hose, and try it out in the next few days...
