Car: 2002 Wrx sedan with stock 5-speed transmission, mileage 152k Concern: Began within the last week, when braking down slight hills/declines (or intermittent level braking) at about say 5-7 mph. Noise sounds like 3-4+ short interval clunk. Occurs with or without the transmission engaged. From the drivers seat, sound appears to come from the passenger front area. I live in an apartment complex that has a slope that I first noticed this concern with and now I hear it almost everytime I drive down to the main parking lot. Any assistance appreciated.
Is it only under those conditions? Or is that when you noticed it? Check your rotor and pad wear first. Could also be your calipers sticking then releasing. What kind of access to tools/garage space do you have at your apartment?
This is the place I can get it occur, sorry Idget mis-typed, it is not a grinding but a low toned clunking. Half awake when I posted originally....
I adjusted the original post. I work at a Honda dealership. I will try and see if I can get some time on a hoist tomorrow and tear into that corner and double check the brakes to be sure, I had gone through the brakes and cleaned/lube all slide points before last winter.
Do you have aftermarket swaybars? Stock endlinks? Mine was clunking like that when I would brake or hit little potholes or sometimes just turning the wheel. Kartboy endlinks fixed it.
Stock bars, links and bushings only suspension mod is tein green springs that have been in the car for the last 40k with the clunky top hats, but that is not the concern, unless that side top hat has sheared somehow? Edit: thinking about it, if the top hat has torn, it would make more noise at all times. No?
