I bought goalie's coilovers. I'm trying to decide if I should put them on now or wait til after winter.... I haven't lived in MN for four years now. Just moved back, so my snow memory isn't perfect. I'm no going to slam it, just a nice drop that loses a little fender gap. Thoughts?...
if in the cities... whatever.. its the salt/rust you need to worry about running coilovers through winter... the height isnt so much an issue on paved roads... unless they dont plow due to a huge dump..
Ok. So is salt/rust harder on coilovers then just installing springs? Or is it just because coilovers are expensive...
because you live in the cities you will not encounter snow amounts that you can not get through with a tastefully lowered car, even a slammed car would be fine. i think what the forum is suggesting is the large amounts of salt laid on the roadways will eat away at your coilovers (threaded sleeves in particular) thus promoting premature ware on parts. but its up to you.
I would vote to wait or stay on plowed roads and get a carwash every other day to keep the salt off the coilovers.
If you're concerned about them in the winter, are you going to swap them out every season? If you plan on running them in the winter in the future, you might as well just put em' on now.
"Lower now or after winter?" The question is: How low? I've been driving year round on Prodrives, which have a modest drop, not slammed at all. No problems in the snow. If you're not scraping the ground, you'll be fine.
Yeah, I've been riding on Prodrives since like 2005 and have gone through all kinds of crap with them. I've only gotten stuck once and that was when I got trapped in Fargo (I94 got shut down) and tried to plow through a 4' snowbank, lol.
I had a FWD civic slammed down (about a 20 oz bottle high) and I drove it for 3 winters no problem. I would worry about the salt. The WRX can always be used as a plow with the AWD (if need be).
