I'm having my trusted mechanic put in a new clutch in my 03' WRX. I asked him if he can get an OEM clutch and he said "You don't want the OEM clutch, you want the LUK clutch." He said it was most likely the same manufacturer of the Subaru clutch (forget the name), just designed better.

Anyone know anything about the LUK clutch? I trust the guy, but I've never brought a Subaru into his shop before.

    Thanks

I've heard of them, but in trucks i think. can't recall.

who manu the clutch discs? Probably Exedy, they manu a ton of clutches and IIRC subaru oem clutch disc too.

I don't know man, I'm sure it's an oem replacement and probably about the same specs. However, I personally wouldn't put anything in my car without knowing the specs beforehand.

If you don't have crazy mods and power and built transmission then an oem spec'd clutch will work just fine. I'm sure most on here will agree that going BIG with a clutch can quickly lead to problems with a stock transmission/drivetrain. So, you're probably fine.

I have put allot of LUK clutches in vehicles ranging from Honda Civics to modded S4's. They are a great clutch imo.

Right, he said Daikin or Daihatsu manufactured the Luk clutch.

I'm running no mods and don't plan on doing anything major, so I don't need a heavy duty clutch.

Man, this couldn't have come at a worse time. :(

LUK is actually part of Schaeffler Group USA and Daikin is a Japanese company. Either way, they are an OEM and should have a decent product.

LuK is indeed made by Daikin. I emailed them directly:

    Jonathan -

Thanks for your interest in LuK Clutches. LuK is the world's largest
original-equipment clutch manufacturer, and over 80% of the Clutch Kits
that we market are produced in one of our own manufacturing facilities.
However, in the rare instance where we are not the OE supplier, we do
obtain the Clutch Kits from the OE manufacturer.

In the case of the Subaru Clutches, that is exactly what happens. We are
not the OE manufacturer for any of the Subaru Clutches, so we do go to
    Daikin for certain applications.

I hope that this settles this debate, and again, thank you for your
    interest in LuK Clutches.
