Bald Tires for me too, Mushai old tires. I'm sure I didn't pull the best time but I had a lot of fun and reached my goal of 33-32 second runs. My best was 32.46  There were some other subie guys throwing good times even a N/A RS 2.5 pull some times in the upper 32's way to go guys!
Really good time guys, it was nice meeting ya again Matt...my best was run 32.1xx, thats on all seasons and untuned turboback + up-pipe...lol Heat 1 got kinda shortchanged in the afternoon, I'm positive I could of made it down to the 31's with another run I'm signed up for PCA/COM...you guys should sign up, theres only a couple of slots left.
Even though the weather sucked, it was an awesome event. My wife got down into the 33s in the STi and I was mucho-stoked to see that she was enjoying it. On the way home she was asking me where she could improve and what her next event would be, she's already signed up for the TNT... If I'm lucky, I can get her to MOWOG 3 and onward from there!! Good to see all the subies at the track, can't wait to see you all out there, watching sucks!
i hit some 32s in my RS fun day indeed!!! oh yea, michael mentioned me, btw this is my screen name michael, good meeting ya. someone got some pictures of this i hope!
Nice re-meeting you also! A guy from the booth told me i was the fastest in group 1 in the afternoon session  I saw a few 31.xx's and one 30.xx, but i killed a cone on that one. It is almost scary how much I learned today. :ugh:
My buddy that was there with his GF in her Civic Si and his Yellow S2K in group 2 was taking photos of pretty much everyone out there. He was going to work on them and post them up on MNAutoX for everyone to see.
From the first group of runs to the second alot of guys shaved anywhere from 2 to 5 seconds:eek3: thats a huge change in driving, good job guys
I shaved 6 from my first run to my last! It was funny how you could see that alot of the people there went in thinking they were good drivers already (I was one of them, i have to admit) and now I feel like Im still inadequate compared to some of the instructors! Its going to take a lot more track time for me to get where I want to be, as well as paying for some buck runs after some events!
Not anymore Novice schools. Theres a teen driving school later this year, and an intermediate school as well. Check out mnautox.com, and theres a listing of events I believe.
This event was way fun. I think I met moleness...are you the blk STI w/the wrx trunk? I'm the 05 blk wingless STI that was scraping mudflaps. Your runs looked good, actually all the Subies did well from what I saw. It was great to see a good number of Subies there!!! I learned a LOT!
Must not have seen me...LOL. Actually towards the end I had a few runs that I thought were really good, but they were still in the 35's. I wonder if I was losing those 2 seconds on a specific part, or just the whole way? My first run was 42 and my second was 41, so I definitely got a lot better. I credit the instructors and riding along with them in their cars.
^^^^ Sweet. I think everyone made big improvements through out the day, I know I did. I was lucky enough to get a ride with Dave in the yellow Vette during lunch :eek4:, then he coached me for 4 runs in the afternoon. BTW I plowed much less after putting the DCCD on full lock. Today's wet track was made for Subies! Subaru AWDFTMFW!!!
Don't make the mistake of underestimating the NA guys just because they don't have "the crazy madd turbo powahz". There is a theory among certain MACers that showing up at Midway in a 2.5RS is actually cheating. It has good low down torque, and the rear VLSD. Many of the turbo cars barely get on boost at Midway, and by the time they do, it's time to hit the brakes. I was fortunate enough to be able to take the Novice School a second time a couple of years ago (it took a *lot* of finagling, and I'm certain I'm the last person they will let get away with it) with a grand total of 5 regular events under my belt. In my 2.5RS, I came second only to a Porsche Boxster, and it was by a very small margin. Midway is also very kind to Miatae, Civics and Integras. Stuart.
I agree! I was finding in my wrx that by the time I really started to hit boost, I was braking hard to get set up for the next turn. The instructor kept telling me to speed up faster, and I couldn't!
With my 20G I need 4000rpms to hit full boost So I know how you feel. For me it came down to smoothness and taking all the corners right + setting up for the up coming corners too, and not sliding to much! Really alot of fun!
Looks like there are some good pictures up on the mnautox website! look in the novice school thread. Lots a subies, except for mine! haha
midway is easily the hardest site to properly run a turbo car like a subaru. All of our other sites are bigger, and yeild much more turbo fun But a 2.5RS at midway? oh you better belive they can do well. To those who let me drive their cars, thank you. it's always enjoyable to try someone else's setup out. i'm sorry if i did worse than you expected.. i was off my game all day yesterday. i need a few good events to dial myself back in.
Yeah, those would be me. In the "how went the novice school" thread, there was another album, with only one picture of my car, thats what I was referring to. So, theres more in that thread if you guys want to look!
I had a good time as well, I was in the maroon talon tsi. I concur with the statements about turbo lag. My instructor too told me to get on it, and I'm sure was wondering why I wasn't listening
once you've driven a car long enough, you can start to get a feel for the lag, and when it comes to play in the course. i know i start to feed my throttle in about a half second earlier than with an NA car, and alot more aggressively to make sure I've built boost by the time i need it. it's a tricky bastard for sure... to make sure i have boost when i need it, and not get it that half second too early throwing my stupid ass into a spin... and these problems are on the stock turbo, i can only imagine it's going to be alot more difficult to handle with a larger more "ON/OFF" turbo like a 20g.
I think that guy ^ was cheating those orange wheels made it corner faster then my black wheels! :eek4:
Yup, that was me! Your runs were looking very good in the afternoon also. What kind of times did you get? Also, what exhaust do you have? APS?
Thanks, I have a catted invidia DP with a Cobb CBE. I like mine too, but your set-up sounds soooo TOUGH! :yumyum: My last run was 31.49. before that I was in the 32s. How were your times? Where did you set your DCCD?
It's a superstitious thing..... Orange wheels-orange cones!!! Hey... maybe I am on to something!!! for a mere $500 I'll powdercoat your wheels!!! Almost guaranteed faster times!
You guys suck! Wish I had the $ to buy a better and "faster" car!!! Yeah, I'm running a catted stock DP with a Stock CBE. WTF is a DCCD?? lol JK
^^^^^^:laugh::laugh::laugh::lollol::lollol::lollol: You may be onto something with those orange wheels...:coolugh:
I had a few in the 31's, a few in the 32's, and I even saw a 30.xx on the clock once, but I hit a cone on that one I used to have a full cobb exhaust, but now I am running the cobb catted dp with an Apex Gt Spec exhaust. It sounds quite tough, but I wish it didn't sound so tough at 1900 rpm in my neighborhood, lol. I didn't mess with the dccd at all. I will play with that more once I master the auto
Awesome! my best was 32.46 I'm happy with that for now A shorter 2nd gear would be nice like you STI guys have
I hear you on the shorter 2nd gear! I think next time I run, I will be shifting from first to second. Not sure if that will help but I hate waiting for the rev's to build to go anywhere!!! My best was 32.4 also... I think I could be faster if someone else was driving!!
