    well..when i was doing my cluth...i didn't know the socket was broken so i went to use it and it just rounded it...now it's even worst...i'll try that...

    Are you using a 6pt socket??? A 6pt will usually snap the stud/bolt before stripping the nut.


    The only reason I own a 12pt socket is because head and crankcase bolts have a 12pt head.

    True that!! My Metrinch toolset are ALL 6pt. I have a 12pt 12mm for block halfs, a 12pt 14mm for head bolts, and a boxed stepped CRAFTSMAN 12pt 12mm/14mm wrench for certain nut/bolts (one of my favorite tools).

    So lemme get this straight, you can drop a 2.5 STI engine into a 2.0 WRX with the above parts and all you need is a tune? I thought the big jump to 2.5would mean new ECU, wiring harness, and other scary challenges...

    nope, you can tune your ecu to accept the 2.5

    You are better off getting a UTEC with the 2.5 shortblock and the 2.0 ecu.

    Since the knock logic of the 2.0L ecu listens for resonance harmonics from a 2.0 liter block, throwing in a block of a different type will produce different sounds that the ecu can think is knock but really isn't. As a result, it is very common to get "phantom knock" and have the car run VERY inconsistant timing.

    You will need a 32-bit ecu if you are going to use AVCS heads.

    Just out of curiosity, are 2.0L and 2.5L knock sensors different part #'s? If the knock sensor matches the block, are the signals still different as far as how the ECU reads knock events?

    The 2.0L and the 2.5L turbo engines use different knock sensors. It is possible that they pick up different amounts of noise or different signals for knock, but I bet the problem lies in the ECU, and not the specific sensor.

    alrite...got the engine out today...and everything is off the block...well..except the heads...but just need a new block now...
