I think I'm too paranoid about getting stuck with a bunch of pond balls. The local stores usually have a few left over and sell boxes for cheap ($10)... it's just a matter of stumbling across them. Haven't seen the apex tour balls around much tho...
I heard the Hogan brand is going out/out of business, so buy whatever you find, cuz you won't find many of them anymore. As for used balls, I buy them all the time off ebay or lostgolfballs.com - they rate them from shag bag to mint and everything in between, you get what you pay for. I've had pretty good luck buying some near mint or one hit wonders, essentially half price of new. I'm golfing tomorrow!
Yeah, pretty sure they discontinued the apex tours a few seasons ago and the Hawks a couple years ago. Hence the reason I want to stock up on them Where are you playing?
Right now, Nike Platinums - they really bite on the greens and putt very soft. I'm not so trilled about the spin off the driver and they seem a bit shorter - sometimes a half club. I might go back to pro V1s or NXT tours, or try the new Srixon z-stars or some of the newer Nike balls. I bought a 12 pack of TopFlight Gamers last year, haven't used them that much so I can't say too much about them. They feel soft, but I didn't think they had much bite holding a green with a wedge - not much does compared to the Platinums. For how cheap they are, they're still pretty decent, maybe comparable to NXTs. Since I started playing "premium" balls, I've had a hard time going back to cheap/distance balls. I don't really need distance, I'm pretty long off the tee.
this totally made me think of the beavis and butthead episode where beavis steals the golf balls then sells them back to everyone at the pro shop. :laugh: i'd be down for some golf and i know josh would be game as well
Pro V1s are awesome thats what i normally hack at, that or callway hex. Hope some of this crappy weather clears up along with this stupid cold or what i have.
Heck I use anything that is different the the others and that I can see...Top Flite (the bright green ones), I also have a few Callaway.

most, if not all courses are open in rochester. I don't know about the cities courses. I've played 54 holes so far this year. That will pick up as the weather improves.
Not many courses are open in the cities. Ranges are open. In my area, Como is open but it's a swamp. Give it a couple weeks.
I'd be up for this as well. I just got new clubs for christmas. Been useing a set of clubs that my dad bought back in the late 70's. Used those from 1998 to last year. I had real woods made from wood lol.
I'm always in for some golfing This could actually be a good idea for a club event/fundraiser. Have a MNSOC 4 man scramble tournament.
We discussed this at our last meeting and decided that there's a disproportionate amount of non golfers to golfers. We would rather organize and host events that appeal to a larger demographic. That said, some of the MNSOC officers are still willing to help plan and run the event since some of us (myself included) would be interested in such an event... the club wouldn't be funding it tho.
Can the people that want to do the golf thing, do the golf thing? The rest can sit at the clubhouse and drink.

Sounds good to me. I'm not much of a golfer myself, just enjoy knocking balls around the course and being outdoors. Just checked with Dwan in Bloomington and they have some openings at 8 and 845 am and then not untill 12ish. Open for suggestions on this one.
Lester is now open in duluth enger's driving range opened last week... Hopefully getting out this weekend!!
Not sure on weather, but my guess would be if you plan on playing to call ahead and get a tee time... everyone is gonna want to get out up here i'd guess

I think just about all the golf courses are going to be opening this weekend / next week up north. Shouldnt be to bad finding a spot to play after this weekend.
Just a heads up for everyone. Grab yourself a pga card. google pga card and you will find it. The cost for the card is $25. It allows you to golf at half the price for a normal round. These are good at almost every course in the usa, after 1pm on the weekends and I'm not sure what time for the weekdays. I'm picking one up this friday, payday.
+1 Discounts at certain (most) courses for rounds, carts (if you use them) and driving ranges. Played my first round of the season at Phalen on Saturday. TONS of ROLL. It was pretty hilarious to top my drive on one hole and still get 200 yards (150 yards of roll) because the ground was so hard. Greens played like ass... burnt out, fuzzy, bunrt out, ant hill, burnt out, aerated... I played like ass too. Shot 56 on the front and 44 on the back:laugh: Hit 6 trees (4 on 1 hole), only had 4 pars, had 39 putts, and lost 1 ball in the road (which I picked up after a jeep ran it over and shot it back towards the course:laugh. Didn't lose a ball but took a ton of OB strokes. Tons of fun tho. Can't wait to play some twilight this week. Thinking about checking out Gross.
If we do one, it looks like it will not be an "official" outting. But im looking into hopefully getting something for the weekend of the Duluth cruise.

whats everyones best score this year so far? 88 for me. but im working on lowering it. and favorite course. chaska town course is my favorite course ever so far. for the monday special price you cant beat it. super fast greens, amazing layouts, gps cars for only like $53 after 10am mondays!
90 at Blackbery Ridge in St. Cloud this spring...then my clubs got stolen : ( If anyone is selling a set lmk! favorite course: haven't played it but Im pretty sure St. Croix National will be my favorite lol
