good selection - when you said 300mm I thought you meant one of the L primes:yumyum:. I need to pick up a midrange lense (70-200 f2.8 non-IS probably). I have a 17-40 f/4L and a 400 f/5.6L so I definately run into situations where I have nothing that really works
both of those pics are a little oof what's the story with the firefighters? I can't speak for holster, but I use photoshop cs3 to add my frame and sig. I wrote actions to automatically do all my basic processing for pics that I did not crop - automatically resizes, adds border and sig, unsharp mask, add name to exif. Image -> canvas size. then just increase it slightly to get your border
i use cs2. and i dont like to use prerecorded actions on all of my photos because each photo is diffrent and needs special attention. it take a lot more time but i feel like i should devote time to each photo i want to edit individualy. i also use canvase size for my borders. its simple
yeah im looking into getting a midrange but i had to get the 300mm so i can do some good shoots for the driftdays that are coming to elko this year... by the way i know you are on D-town carl. are you going to do anything at the elko event for coverage?
I shoot with my Xt and was wondering when I shoot with RAW what is the best way to edit and what is the advantages of RAW....I dont normally use that setting but took some pics of the Foz all dirty and tried that setting...
raw can have some large advantages but unless you are shooting something super professional and want it printed WAY big. RAW photos can be a bit of wasted effort. plus it takes a lot of converting to edit them anyways. i only shoot in RAW if i know im going to need to blow the image up really large. it also takes up a LOT of room in your memory so dont use it unless you have to
Yah it might be blur, the bird was 1/13, and the firefighters 1/40, but i've also noticed a lot of my pictures aren't all that sharp even though looking through the viewfinder when I take them they appear to be. Also even happens with better lighting and higher f-stops. Can the camera get out of adjustment on the sensor for focus, or should I just figure it's operator error? The firefighters pic was from a training drill in a small building that is going to be torn down shortly. I'm on the fire dept and grabbed my camera as we were heading out. But only had time to take a few pics before it got too dark. Monday we're doin some stuff in a house, with a little luck i'll have a chance to get some shots there. Thanks for the tips, i've got 'CS' on my computer but don't really know much about how to use it. I'll give that stuff a try... well, if I can figure it out!
Just starting out with a real camera...rebel xt, stock lens. Really need to get a macro lens for pics of my frogs...this one was one of the better ones so far (only had the camera one week) the frog in the pic is about the size of a dime.
that is t mention nothing of the fact that you can correct for exposure etc in raw images as well as if it were done in the shot originally
if you read what my actions do, all it's for is resizing for web, sharpening after resize, adding the border and sig (as long as the pic hasn't been cropped - if it has been I have to do that all manually). so just the basics that are the same for every pic. all other pp is done individually I don't log onto D-town very often anymore. I'd have to see when it is - I would also like to have the 70-200 f2.8 for an event like that (is this elko even going to be at night?) recommend you look into the sigma 105mm macro 1:1 it's a very good lens at a very good price. you can also add some extension tubes if you need to get an even higher ratio also, looking at your pic, I think getting a macro or ring flash would benefit you a ton pic taken on my old 300D THIS! RAW gives you incredible flexibility for tweaking pics once you figure everything out. the most important thing for me is the ability to change wb and exposure (wb more than anything).
yeah i totally forgot to add that. i just dont have any serious need for it when im just having some fun shooting. when i do photoshoots that i REALLY want to be as perfect as can be other than practise ill take some with RAW.
:woot: A couple of you on here met my brother at the LaXCruise last year. I've been bugging the hell out of him to start his own webpage for his gallery. He doesn't have an overabundance of his work displayed yet, but give it time. If you click the right and left side of the pictures, it will rotate through the gallery. And make sure to sign in in the guest book and leave him a comment if you like. Thanks for looking guys, enjoy! www.jastorlie.com
I hope so carl! I haven't seen him since Thanksgiving. Brent, there was a guest book you could leave a comment in. Unless you couldn't see it at the bottom of the home page. I accidently came across it while scrolling around the page. Not sure if it is my settings, or if he did it on purpose, lol. Thanks for the positive comments guys! He truly loves photography more than anyone I know...yeah, even you carl.:hsugh:
Just a FEW pics.... most are with my phone, some are with various cameras of mine. The rents place on Dove Island in Int'l Falls is a GREAT place for pics. [/IMG]
by the way... this one being one of my favorite's of the ones posted by me, was at 95mph hanging out the driver's door of my wrx on my way to the cities.
I have been messing around with Panoramas this one was 5 pictures I think. Any suggestions would be great I am still pretty new to all of this...
I like it, but imo there is too much foreground. my eye is drawn to the entire building but the big empty concrete at the bottom is just kind of there.
Yeah after looking at it now I see what you are saying! I also took it during the worst part of the day it was like 4 when the sun was the highest and ya not a very good time for photos. I have been really busy I would love to go back some after noon and try it again!
i was out for a bikeride because i didnt have enough gas for firestone and took the camera with me. snapped a bunch of images but i liked how these water towers came out. 1 2
yeah i was just biking around and didnt take too much time when i was shooting these cuz it was starting to get too dark for handheld shots
nice... are these just straight shots with the DSLR...or do you edit them a bit also? I really want a DSLR. I have a decent Olympus right now, but not quite up to where I want to be.
dslr. canon rebel XTi and some alright lenses. its expencive but costs less than a car i did edit these a little. with shadow highlight, contrast, and level. thats about it other than the boarder and logo
can we get a sticky on this thread? went on a little walk and found some animals to shoot. bang. 30D 400 f/5.6L
The last one of the rabbit is the best imo, the squirrel is runner up and then the chipmunk ones, nice pics Carl.
nice snipes carl! the one with the crow drinking the water is my pick cuz its something we dont see as much. thats how i shoot animals too. be vewy vwey quiet!
