basically it's model photography with life size objects. i've done that stuff before too, it's kinda fun for a while. you try and make 1:1 objects look like small scale stuff
stop on good chap! yeah its fun to see how the blur tool on ps can make interesting effects. its basicly trying to make a regular photo look like it was taken with a really close up macro of miniature stuff. like those toy towns some crazy people make in their spare time in their basements lol. the movie beetle juice had a good example.
Carl, sweet shot of the oriole (spelling?) on page 16! One of my favorite birds! Ill post some of my shots on here soon.
I know, Birds are a hit or miss deal. I saw an eagle down by the river while crosing over a bridge. As soon as I pulled over and got my gear ready and walked down by the river to get the best shot ever, he flew away b4 I could get the camera up to my eye. By that time it was already to late. This was more out in the country. I have seen some different colored birds out in the country while driving as well that I've never seen b4. Always a good shoot if you get a nice shot!!
My Pictures Ok here are a few of my thousands of shots. I have a lot more good shots but dont have time to put them all on here. Let me know what you think. All shot on my Sony A700 DSLR with Various lenses. Dave
I re adjusted the barn with the sun rays behind it. The top version had to much cyan into the picture. this should look better.
Whats the definition of a ton of noise? I know in some shots I've taken I've had some dust on my lense but I dont see any noise in these pictures. Your screen dirty? lol.. I think I know what your talking about. Noise like in your Water tower pics? In the background. Just trying to see what your talking about. I like being cratiqued (spelling?) It May be my lense. It is kinda old. Some shots are ok and some have a bit of grain to them. My lense is about 15 years old and is a 75-300mm F5.6-f8 lense. Ive got my eye on a F2.8 75-300mm lense for sony but its $6000.00 so it may be a bit b4 I can afford that. I can get a F2.8 75-200mm for just under $2000.00 that may be my first option. http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/8447/sony_300mm_f28g_lens/ http://www.onecall.com/ProductDetails.aspx?id=88252 monthly payments are an option for this! Also I only shot these pictures in xtra fine. Not sure if that makes a huge difference or not, over RAW? I see what you mean now that I look at the shots of the cars. They look more clear. We should have a DSLR meet sometime and I can let someone (CARL) look at my camera. or play with it. I might be using a setting wrong or not have something set right??
when i said a ton maybe i was being a little harsh about it. i really like the pics, im just curious because it just looks like there is some color noise going on in the pics you posted. i was having a really hard time with noise and my camera before i found out the quality settings in the camera menu. the one way i can tell if my pics need some noise reduction is looking at the skys and clouds. it shows up in areas that have a lot of one color. and just another question. what are you editing your photos with? are you using photoshop? cuz some of your boarders seem uneven. once i found out how to do it in photoshop the easy way it made boarders way better.
Hi Dave, I have commented on some of these items in bold take a look at this picture shot at ISO 3200 with no post processing noise reduction. if you look at the hood area, you can clearly see it is "noisy" or contains a bit of grain
Carl, Thanks. I appreciate the help with that. I remember reading somewhere that I think Nikon actually uses Sony Sensors in thier cameras as well. And the New D300 is a very close comparison to the Sony A700. Obviously it has its differences but a good competitor to my camera. I would have probably got a Nikon, But all my lenses fit the sony, so I figured I would save a ton by going with sonys new camera. Eventually I may also get a Cannon or Nikon. Use one as a close up camera and the other as my 300mm camera. I need to do more reading into what to buy. I was looking at the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III. I got to play around with one at the rolex horse event in kentuky. Lots of money in cameras there, and the frames per second that thing shoots is crazy. It carrys a big price but Its definately worth it for awsome shots. Sweet camera, and awsome pictures Holster, I use Photoshop. I just made the borders quick as a background and pasted the pictures over it. So the uneven border was my fault. I went back and looked at some pictures I had 11x 14s made up of and they looked flawless. no grainieness. I also shot about 150 shots at an event today and they looked much better once I got them on my computer. So ?? Carl maybe when we get some time we can get together for a shoot. Thanks Guys Dave
me either i just notice it probably more than most people. and i always seem to think i have way too much noise..... always! its like how some skinny girls always think they're fat lol on your boarders you can easily make cleaner ones. it takes a couple seconds really. how are you doing yours?
just be happy you don't have a nikon mike lol. seriously, the majority of nikons seem more noisy at ISO 400 than a 30D at 1600 lol
We should all get together some day, we could probably have a good time chatting about pictures, and I could show you some of the pictures I have blown up. I am very detail oriented about photos as well. I see things others dont even know what to look for like you guys. I hear ya on the skinny girls think they are fat deal. lol.
the 1Ds III is only worth it imo if you make your income off photography or if you're just rich as hell lol. a mk II or even a 40D at 6.5 fps (also, since it is a 1.6 crop camera your lenses will get an added reach. I really like my 1.6 bodies for shooting with telephotos. I wouldn't mind a 5D though for doing landscapes and car photoshoots)
this technical talk should probably be moved over into the equipment thread I made edit http://mnsubaru.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25427
took these after last tuesdays calhoun meet with my budy's bike. they turned out ok. i really love shooting at and around brookview golf course
#1 almost feels like it is too angled (bike's natural lean plus slightly slanted ground), that's really my only comment - otherwise the lighting is fantastic (maybe clone out that bench off to the side) #2 I really like this shot #3 great shot but it feels like it's missing something (might be that the front of the bike begins to blend into the trees a bit)
yeah that first one was tough because it was really dark out by the time i took it. it was parked under the par3 building roof. #2 i cant figure out anything to change in it. #3 i think i could have gotten a slightly better ange on the bike. a littke more of the front. but i LOVE the exposure on this shot. i had to shoot it in raw so the sky wouldnt get blown out. and yeah its hard to get that front not to match the trees.
pics look good. Nice and clear. I've taken lot more lately trying to get the noise part fixed and fixed a few noob things. I did have some setting set wrong when I took the last pictures I posted. Holster, yours were very crisp looking. You really got me looking at the whole noise thing in everything I look at from different cameras, and in my shots. Carl I noticed a little noise in some of yours from BIR but not to bad. But then again Ive seen other picrtures you've posted that look flawless. I will get some of my new photos edited a little and get them on here for your review. I like hearing what you guys have to say.
noise is a tradeoff for sharpness. I underexposed some slighly and fixing that in pp will generate noise. I could kill it with nn but would rather have a sharp image with some noise than a non-noisy soft image (I really have no problems with low levels of noise - as stated before, I didn't think any of your shots were particularily noisy)
you guys suck.. you make me sick... when I say suck its pure un-adulterated jealousy.... I want piktore taking skills like you guys.. heck I would settle for your left testicle size of ability.. I point I shoot.. and the only thing that that sort of thing has worked for me is making babies I want lesson hosting event in my new workshop this year...
eat more wheaties we need to do an official mnsubaru photo outing. maybe to como zoo? anyone interested?
problem is the only outing I am afraid you would get on a lesbian driving group is... well you can figure it out, and I wouldnt really want pics of that
i'd def. be interested cuz i haz no good pics of my car...well except from the ice races (thanks hotcarl)
photo outing would not be for cars. cars are rather boring to shoot all the time imo but I still do them because they can be fun and other people enjoy seeing the pics. outing would be more of a photog meet and greet
I love that last shot carl. Looks Sweet. Very Clear as well! Im not trying to pick on you about noise, I Just notice it more now. Your shots are very sweet and I love how you shoot! A photo meet would be pretty cool, Im up for something like that as long as I dont have anything booked that day. Would be very cool to take some of the same shots and also some of the same with diffrent angles for each camera. Then we could display our sweet shots on here or where ever.
it'd be fun because everyone has a unique style so even though we all shoot the same things, we end up with a bunch of really different shots btw, I need to talk to you about some graphics things (need stickers of my web address, I'll send you a pm later)
Which one of you shoots like Austin Powers? I'm a big ham so I'll do all sorts of stupid things to get on camera.
como!!!! or we could cough up some extra green to hit the minnesota zoo. cars can get boring to shoot but thats why i change things up as much as i can. in my amount of shooting i dont really shoot cars all that much. i really just post the car shots more often cuz other people like them more.
sounds like fun, i'm interested sounds like fun, i'm interested... er, i mean i'd do that photo shoot
well it sounds like we'd have some interest in doing photo outings. I'll look at my schedule and start a thread later
so the other day i was driving along and spotted something odd in a yard... at first i thought it was just some weird decoration statue thing, but then i realized it was actually a real live critter! i stopped, rolled down the window, grabbed the camera and took a few shots. i don't know if these are actually uncommon or not, but i haven't seen many so i thought it was pretty cool.
