I have a 08 wrx and am ordering turbo back exhaust and uppipe and going to do a stage 2 tune, first of all anything else i should do at the same time and also what else is worth the money for mods before going bigger turbo and fuel components? also on the exhaust i need something quieter is better so i was thinking the down pipe and mid pipe, everything but the muffler, what percentage of the power upgrade will you lose by just doing that versus the whole thing? someone also told me to do the intercooler on my 08 with the tune and im thinking a gm boost solonoid too but wanted some more opinions... thanks for the info. I did have a vf34 02 wrx but dont wanna go that deep into this one just yet.

If your stock up pipe is already catless I'd skip that idea for now and use that money on something else.

should probably do a K&N (or equivalent) drop-in filter and silencer delete if u dont plan on doing an intake. IMO an EBCS is worth doing too if its in the budget. remember, some things might not be compatible with future mods depending on how far u want to go (ex. dont get that up-pipe yet if u plan on going to EWG in the future, and remember that ur intake choice can interfere with ur future IC location)

    my $.02
u might want to talk to bullwinkle or nuke, they do a lot of stg2 tunage

A good place to start is how much extra money do you have to spend on stuff besides the DP?

On my 09' I did DP and MP and left the SPT exhaust. It is very quiet until you get on it. Not sure if you have a stock or SPT set up.

edit: you might want to include what you currently have done to the car.

a great resource for our gen car is http://www.3gwrx.com/forum/index.php

Here is what I had on my 08 before I went big:
SPT catback (very quiet) and could get it pretty cheap used
Catted DP since our little turbos like to creep
    Grimmspeed BCS
Intercooler is optional but I would highly recommend
There is no silencer delete in our cars, it's either Intake or KN filter
Maybe recirculated BOV to replace our plastic one

Stage 2 on our cars is a torque monster 260-280 range for sure.

I'd recommend a Grimmspeed BCS. Do the full TBE. There are plenty of quiet ones out there!

    Other than that...fuel upgrades!:yumyum:

Other things to think about..... everyone has their own way of thinking, but here are some things going through my head for my car.

what sort of tires are you running. Good tires can make a huge difference and many people overlook them. although this isn't a HP mod, it can improve your driving experience. i wouldn't be the person to ask which tires, but if you have the money it is worth it.

This one is person preference... but they do make a kit for our cars for around $100 to upgrade the bushing in your shift set up. This will give you less slop. I personally have the SPT short shifter, and I wish is was a shorter throw... but instead of buying a new short shifter set up I have been throwing around the idea of just tightening up the whole shifting experience.... see link below.

gauges. they can be expensive (to do right) but it is always good to monitor what your car is doing/acting/living. buying a multi gauge like the PLX gauges will allow you to add sensors later (as you get more money) and monitor more than one value at a time.

good video review of the PLX Gauges

I have not put the time into researching the TMIC for our gen yet... but there is a thread in the vendor section of this site from import image racing on a the cheapest (in price) TMIC i have seen from just looking around.

Finally there is the sway bar option. It looks like that is going to be about $600 for front and back bars + end links. From what I have read I guess if you don't get new end links you loose a lot of the point for adding stiffer sway bars.

Or you could go E85.... which is my next step.

I am not an expert, but this is stuff I have on my radar when I get money.

yeah thanks for all the great info. i know quite a bit about cars already and owned a 02 that had around 300whp but this is a whole different car, these cars have different restrictions and different things make more of a difference. i have good tires and have springs i still gotta put on sitting in my garage, not looking into suspension but some great info for me to save. so if i do my down pipe mid pipe and leave the stock muffler it will still put down close to the same and be quieter or is the muffler really restrictive on these? and will go up pipe and grimspeed bcs, and i know most other wrxs you didnt need a aftermarket intercooler for a stage 2 set up but im sure these are different, how much of a difference will it make on a 08 besides safer and cooler for the turbo? also im sure i will get a recirculated bov i hate plastic ones... thanks for all the great info guys money isnt too much of a issue its good to know whats best for the budget for a full stage 2 as possible since ill be there for awhile.. or until i get the itch again :D

currently on my car I do not have a new intercooler, I am just running a DP and MP with a tune. I would modify your heat shield for your new DP or buy a GRIMMSPEED one if you don't want to cut and fit your stock one. This will help a little bit with the heat soak that everyone talks about with our TMIC. Not sure how much, but spending 15 minutes cutting up the old one is worth it.

What DP and MP are you going with? I really like my catless TubroXS one. One thing that happened to me that you might want to watch for (or listen for) is that my heat shield down by the muffler started to rub on the exhaust. I first noticed it around tight corners and only turning one direction (due to the way the pipe would move with the car). Then it started to get more and more noticeable (a rattle). I checked the seals to make sure i tightened everything down, it wasn't that. While inspecting the whole pipe I noticed towards the rear the heat shield hung down a bit lower. Just bend it up a bit and your problem will be fixed.

Subaru mufflers are quite restrictive. Most folks will tell you that the downpipe is the biggest restrictor, but in my experience, the WRX cans are equal if not more of a flow restriction. If you're going to do it, I'd recommend a full TBE.

The stock BCS on the GR's is much better than the previous years, so a 3-port BCS isn't as much of a need.

The stock TMIC will be fine for a stage 2 tune, you're not going to see a ton of power benefit from an aftermarket unit on the stock turbo.
