Snow was fun for the driving this evening. It is going to take some getting used to driving a 5spd in the snow vs the auto. The dynamics of the car are very different now. Throttle on vs throttle off is going to take some getting used to. Also I saw the first snow casualty of the year. a red BMW early 90s M3 went way into the ditch on 83. It was trying to go up the hill and then shot off to the right across the ditch and beached itself in someones hedge. didnt see it happen but got a laugh out of it.
^ I like the 5MT versus the auto. Sometimes in the snow it works a whole lot better to hold a higher RPM in a lower gear even if it slipping a bit. Couldn't really do that well in the 4EAT. For some reason with my car it stays glued in 2nd - hard to get the rear to swing out even when I was trying. I also saw a mid-90's Olds that appeared to have come down the 280 S to University off-ramp to hot and took out a traffic light pole. lol Actually, though, car looked pretty bad. Hope everyone was alright.
Anybody going out tonight? I want to try and get some good shots with the camera plus i wanna play a bit!!
No sir. YOU are truly not ready until you have spoolem take you on this course. Then you will be prepared for anything that unexpectidly heads your way, even a downed airplane in the middle of the highway with kingkong and Godzilla fighting next to it while the crowd watches from a hot air balloon drinking hot coco and chai tea from starbucks while watching live football.. On a TUESDAY..MORNING. will you then be ready? Yes. Yes you will
It's about darn time we had some reasonable amount of snow fall. I guess I grew up spoiled living in South-West lower MI right smack in the lake effect band. My mom has had over a foot for weeks now.
If everyone loves snow shens so much why aren't any of you signed up for the rally cross school? It's legal, cheap, and you will be learning from some of the best drivers around.
I signed up for the winter car control event. Didn't really catch on to the rally school event until Scuba Steve kind of explained more about it to me yesterday.
I still don't understand why people go SOOOOOOOOOOO crazy over the first snow. Ugh. Its depressing, not fun.
Plenty of other events all winter. Audi club, Orr "ice races", BMW club, and the MNSOC winter car control clinic. I just thought I'd throw in a plug for what should be a great event. Keeps people off the streets and out of trouble, and you can learn to be a safer and better driver year round.
It is coming down pretty good right now - at least here in Shoreview. Snow, pack, partially melt, snow, pack, partially melt, etc. Leads to some actually pretty slippery conditions - remember that AWD doesn't help us (or the people coming up behind us at stop lights :eek3 to stop.
well yeah..thats why you prey your tires are grippy as hell or at least know how to drift properly so you can avoid on coming traffic
or theirs. lol I get so scared waiting to be rear-ended.. Yikes! At least if I'm watching I know I can accelerate out of the way pretty quickly - barring any cross traffic.
yes it can be avoidable as long as you pay attention and can antisipate ahead of time that you know these people are stupid...this one time on 494 this chick in a toyota camery kept getting REALLY close to my rear bumper then slowing down then accelerating very fast again...so i slowed the car...pulled to the other lane...matched her speed waved to her then got behind her and just watched her be a completely eratic driver all over the entire highway she almost rear ended 5 people then almost hit the guard rail and flipped her car...
Haha. Right before getting my subaru I managed to turn a 35mph rear-end into a slight tap by noticing this girl coming in hot and pulling forwards and to the side (in a line of traffic) quickly. She had her infant son in the rear seat, no less.
i almost go cross eyed keeping one eye on my rear view while having another eye on the road..when im stopping i dont trust people behind me at all...
