IIRC i heard someone say main bearing in that video.

anyway back on track here, i would trust most of the members to work on my car. Matt/Brian/Ben/Mike/Chux.... there are alot of capable people on here, who all know what they are doing.

fran is talking about the 2.0 engine, not the vid of the 2.5 at the ice races.

yeah i know.. i was just clearing some things up for people. most people probably think fran is talking about the most recent blow up at the ice races...he is/was not. it was down at firestone a few day before the 2.0 blew.

    ah...no.

Maybe if you would have been there the whole time, and not just poking your head in and out of the conversation...you would have heard me say that the noise was coming from UNDER the alternator. And it did sound like a timing belt tensioner.

So NO, you were not right either....because it wasn't a rod bearing. It was a spun main bearing. I'm not saying the rod bearings were still good, but the main bearing was the one that spun.

I'll admit that i'm not always right, but who are you to come around talking trash.

It has been said already that the issue with the 2.5 was a main bearing, and the issue with the 2.0 was not rod bearing failure. IIRC, he broke something head related on the 2.0, which was why his heads were un-usable.
And as for the tow dolly statement, he used a tow dolly that is intended for AWD vehicles.

OT: You coming over on Friday? We're having another party ;)

yeah i didnt think you said anything about it being the alternator but i couldnt remember exactly cause that was so long ago. do you remember you saying something about the tensioner though.

jason - no i believe it was the main bearing on the 2.0 and possibly a wrist pin bearing on the 2.5(yet to be taken apart)

bikerboy did a 30K service on my STi last Friday. After talking to him for 5 minutes it was obvious he knows his shyte. Was referred to him from some members here and hadn't met him before then, so I'm not just trying to steer you towards a longtime buddy or anything. Very professional, guarranteed his work, and put up with me asking him beginner questions for 3+ hours :). Not to mention the fact that he saved me an a$$-load of money vs having the same service done at a dealership.
