Sorry for the Newb question, but is there a spectator section? I live 10 mins away and will be down in that area anyhow, and thought I might drop by w/ my Dad who likes cars also. Wampachs cafe in Shakopee is great for breakfast too, Lions Tap on 212 for burgers, fyi for those who don't know already. Turtles on Main St. for Brewskis. I was looking, but could not find any times for this event. When does it start?
7:15 am to 8:30 am - Event registration 7:45 to 9:15 am - Course walking 7:30 am to 8:45 am - Tech inspection 9:00 am - Novice Course Walk 9:30 am - Drivers meeting 10:00 am - First car off It's a parking lot so imagine there are plenty of spots for viewing.
Valley fair is particularly nice for spectators since its large and wide open. You can see the entire (large) course unlike at other venues... I suppose I should get going soon.
Fun stuff, wish I was there for more than spectating. Not to steal the event's thunder, but how about that lineup of cars that came in during the first session? 4 or 5 911's, one of which being a fully caged GT2 and another GT3!
I saw several father/son types walking around checking out the cars and such. Did you make it down there? I suck but had a blast.
oh yeah I noticed a white bugeye with rally pig stickers, broken muffler, and was really dirty with a real nice big sticker in the back window that said mnsubaru.ghay. Vortgo? I think he misspelled ghey. Very nice.
well this stinks, yesterday i tried to wake up early but that wasnt a success so today i was determine to and make it out there to race. i thought i would be smart and stay at a buddy's place, cause it was closer and i was drinking last night. yeah woke up drove then five minutes later i stopped cause something felt funny. yeah, i got a flat. no spare either cause i left the spare at home to go racing. needless to say, i dont think i'm gonna make it this time. oh and my wife is have a garage sale so i have no idea where all my stuff is at. looked at the tired, i have no idea why it went flat. no punctures that i can see. this is not a good day to begin with. okay i'm done now.
Or he's just good. I didn't hit a single cone all day either. I DNF'd my first run because I overshot the slalom by a cone. Whoops. Second run was pretty decent, third run I put myself in second in SI. Not bad for a first auto-x. I ended up finishing 3rd in SI, no cones all day. That place royally killed my tires tho.
I was in area 3 beginning of the little slalom for your first set of runs and you were very fast by me.
yeah my first run of the day was a 77.xx and by the end of the day i hit 73.4 i believe. i dont think its too bad for an RS with nothing but springs and tires
Dammit, my tires are dead. And spec miatas should not run in SI. Though i had a good run, 3rd in SI, .004 behind second. 1st was that goddamn Miata that had no place in SI. Don't remember what i ran yesterday, but I ran much faster today.
HAHA I happened to check at the midway point he had a three second lead on everyone in SI. Oh well, you can at least take solace in the fact he's no longer allowed to run SI.
He had no business being in SI, and I was tempted to tell him to get out. If you're trailered in, you're prepped enough to figure out what class you should be in. though i'd note he only finished witha 3 second lead over the pack with a spec miata with R-compounds. . . . I had no problem losing to the Celica that beat me, but the miata just pissed me off. He ruined everyone in SI's chances of winning that class. I did meet a lot of great people out there including some subaru owners I'd never met before. Including 2 other LGT manual wagon owners Granted I should transition to a proper class myself (probably ESP), but I need some suspension work before I can be competative there (stock except for AP and 7.5in wheels). Also I need to be faster, and I'd like to be banned. :hsdance:
Might not work out. Those two LGT wagons were running SI whole last season and neither got banned, and they aren't bad drivers. There's almost always some newbie in a AS or SS car, who can miraculously put together one quick run to ruin your hopes Unless you want to go to some smaller events up in Eau Claire.
hate to say it, but the rules of SI are anyone can run it. You can tell him to get out, but he isn't breaking any rules, a lot of road racers do terribly at autocrosses. Since it is an unlimited class there is virtually always going to be someone with a faster car, and there is always someone ruining it for everyone. The day before it was the car that won the GRM championship a couple of years back. Next time it could be a ferrari. The point in making SI was never for it to be competitive, it was to keep newcomers from having to deal with the classing system initially and just go and have fun. you're welcome to join ESP, there are a lot of subaru wagons there already, if you choose to stick with Si just keep plugging away and you'll eventually win it.
you can do SI anytime you want, doesn't matter of you have gone in any other classes before. I am pretty surprised I guess at how competitive SI has gotten now that it is such a large class.
Hehe, so you put together a class of 3 cars for yourself to win Now that you got 2nd (or not?) - time to start working on deepening the class so that there are two trophies?
Oh I realize that and I'm not really as bitter as I sound, I just like a good rant. It's just somewhat annoying to have that car there basically completely prepped. Actually a Ferrari or that Ford GT would be kind of fun, it just sort of feels like a preped car violates the spirit of the thing.
Run in like "run the engine as loud as possible in the parking lot"? Then maybe yes, otherwise it might have been a corvette next to it....
I was driving next to a yellow Corvette today with personalized plates that read 'AUTO XR'. Anyone see him there this weekend?
He certainly likes his oversteer. I saw him at the second TnT last fall manage to slide that beast all the way around the sweeper in the back of the west course. Real fun to watch.
I saw him once years ago at a corvette club autocross intentionally do a 180 through the finish lights. He actually drives less drifty now if that is possible.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR... All the prep I did and I still FAIL. Car ran fine when out for a test run on Wed, but wouldn't start on its own on Sat morn. I even had it on the charger overnight. Managed to start it with the STi and then when I stopped for gas, it wouldn't start again. It was now already 8am and I was supposed to already be working tech, so I called it a day. I was worried that I would have to jump it for every run...not going to happen. As it turns out, it still will not start under its own power, even after being on the charger for another night. The battery is either fried or the charger is. However, considering it wouldn't start without a jump when I stopped for gas, I suspect it is the battery... Well, at least it is easy to replace, just not cheap. Oh well, it should be ready for DCTC in June. As for the Spec Miata...they run in DSP and I have never lost to one. :wiggle: (have only run against 2)
Yeah, it kinda sucks but there really is no 'spirit' of SI. Lot's of prepped cars run there. It's just a catch all for lots of reasons, and it's not really meant to be competitive...no times published or trophies given. Also, SI runs on raw time only...look at your index results when they come out...you may have beaten him on index after all, thats worth way more in my book! Hell, I can run SI in the STU Evo if I want...but I'm gone if I win. That why that rule is there. Never had it when I started...just jumped into a class. More fun. Good to see everyone out there. Legacy Wagon done good. Hope you all had fun!
The day was very nice except for the wind, I could of propted a sail and made my way around the parking lot. It was nice to put a face to a screen name and see old familar faces, its been too long. Shibb, 2.5-rs, Shane and Idget and others. Thanks again for a great time.
