I have a stock 05 sti with 60,000 miles. I have been getting horrible gas milage compared to what I was getting last year. The air filter has only 5,000 miles on it. What else could be affecting the gas milage? I have the same driving habits as well.

I have noticed the same on my '05 STi with about 46k. I am wondering if it's a result of winter gas. The car seems to run fine but the mpg is down.

Last fall my car threw a CEL for the front O2 sensor (pass. side near the front wheel well). One member on IWSTI had reported the same probelm and he had fixed it by moving the sensor wires away from the exhaust. I bent the bracket holding the wires and cleared the code. It has not come back.

Not enough info to give you a good answer. What kind of mileage are you getting?? When was the last time you changed plugs?? Tires inflated properly?? Same gas station as before?? Hvae you tried a different gas station??

I get 18-20 mpg with a 22t swap 16 psi daily. I dont drive it hard. I think my bov makes it worst for being atmospheric

wow i'd kill for 250 or 300 mpg!
i'm guessing that that is actually miles per tank...

I am getting maybe 225 a tank. I have not done plugs yet, I use holiday and shell. What about fuel filter? I have the tires checked once every two weeks. I use the same 2 gas stations since I bought it.

per tank is useless, because no one, not even you, fill up w/ the same exact amount of gas every time.

I usually fill my 05 STi at around the point when there is a quarter tank left, so I am usually putting in between 10 and 11 gallons on a 15.9 gallon tank. I average between 17.5 and 19mpg when I bust out the old calculator to figure it out. I use the same gas. Seems fairly low I guess, considering I don't beat on the thing at all times. SPT intake and Exhaust---nothing else. filter piece could maybe use replacement.

...is not an accurate measure of gallons gone into the car. Are you at the station the very moment it goes on, filling up? Probably not. MPG > MPT

I am usually on short trips but I get around 20mpg. On a long trip I just got 25. I think they're still putting crap gas in the pumps. Last summer I got around 22 in town, and 27-28 on long slow trips.

I would stay far away from Holiday gas. Shell and BP 92 non-oxygenated FTW. Winter gas sux, and I think the car will eat more fuel during the colder months due to colder, more dense air. I could be wrong, so feel free to correct me.

Only reason to hit up the non-oxy is to add about 5-7% to your gas mileage. Ethanol is a knock retardant.

And, as far as the 15 cent price premium per gallon here, I don't believe it is really worth it for the non-ox, unless you're going on a long road trip.

If your not beating on your car, or really PUSHING the tune, non-oxy is probably the best thing. If you are just DD your car, that is where the milage comes from. Probably a good reason why I am getting 24-26 in town and 30+ cruising the freeway. and my DD consists of a 25 minute 22 mile drive to work, and a 60+ minute 22 mile drive home from work. And I am talking miles per gallon. I always fill up around the half tank mark, and I know I should be over the 180 mark for half tank.

And for the other that are not getting good milage, any mods? any kinda of tune?? Is it a REAL tune, not a OTS map flash??

My epxerience shows no really statistically significant loss of mileage during the winter months. Sure, the theory shows that it should be slightly less, but with the wide variations in driving conditions/destinations/weather/etc, there isn't solid data to show it is consistently worse...

on a different note, I haven't been boosting at all this week so ive been running regular, on my last 5 gallons i got 31 mpg, keep in mind this is all freeway, and i rarely get the RPMs over 3k (non turbo, 2.2 legacy turbo injectors, 60trim, and RRFPR) very impressed

Dang, thats comparable to mine, the 1998 LGT. I never use Holiday gas; how good of quality is Costco gas, thats where I fill up, or SA, BP, or Marathon (same price for 89oct. as for 87 oct.) I get 20 to 27 mpg, and 27 mpg is pushing it. Average driving, no spirited driving at all, is about 24mpg:ugh:, and its an automatic. The 27mpg instance was when my Dad drove it with my Uncle, from Rochester to Eden Prairie, both people are careful and steady drivers, not given to lead-foot syndrome, hehe. I would much rather prefer a manual, any day. So, what keeps me in the Legacy... money does, BAH, you might see me post a pic of a new vehicle sometime in the future. I would rather have a newer, manual, fun vehicle that I like, and still get the same mpg.

Any thoughts on Seafoam additive, besides use only on a full tank?

    not to brag but...

24 miles one way to work, I filled up when I left work and filled up again when I got back in town

    24 miles I used .51 gallons.

im getting roughly 50mpgs just driving normal and doing 70 on the highway.

    my geo ftw.

sry back to subaru gas milage.....

Tim, that is awesome man. I'm guessing the 3 cyl engine? I've been looking at ALL kinds of fuel efficient cars.
Suzuki Swift, Toyota Corolla, and the Nissan Sentra come close to the Metro as far as awesome mpg is concerned, and runs on regular gasoline. Of course the TDI Golf/Jetta Volkswagen would be F-sweet for mpg and nice features, but those are being bought up left and right, :ugh:.

yep, 3cyl with a fresh rebuild on the engine (see thread titled "geo carnage")

I love the car and will likely keep one in my fleet forever, its cheap as sh1t and gets better gas milage than anything under 14k or whatever a new hybrid costs.

the way I see it, if you are buying a car that isnt fast you might as well buy the slowest, cheapest, most econimical car you can.... owning a geo and a modded subaru evens out to owning like a bone stock impreza L in gas milage terms
