my car sounds like a pod racer

03 wrx w/07 sti tranny, i was on the car and everything felt fine, slowed to a cruising speed and tried to apply the gas at a normal driving pace, and it will move and excelerate but there is a humming sound (like a pod racer) that i believe to becoming from somewhere in the front driveline. any ideas?

 

post up date now that i roll all my windows down i think it might be coming from the rear

 

So it makes the noise when your accelerating, decelerating, or all the time. I had a howl coming from my rear diff when I would let off the gas. Had to get a new rear diff, thanks warranty

 

check all your fluid levels, check for play in your wheel bearings, did u get new tires and arent used to the new road noise?

 

it only does it when i accelerate. the more gas i give it the louder it gets. it is a whinning sound, kinda sounds like a supercharger.

 

My guess is its a bearing going out in one of the differentials.

 

a buddy of mine had that sound coming from his sti's rear
turned out to be the rear differential (he had to get a new one)

 

yeah, i kinda had a feeling with the rear diff. Do you guys think it should be ok to drive to a shop? thanks for the help
