I'm going to guess a DPMS 308L..... I just ordered the regular 308 from dpms with the heavier barrel and the Keltec I carry in the .32 both are great guns for the right conditions.

I am also going to go along with the AR style rifle guess. I know you sold the .450 so you are in need of another AR.

Also DeeGee how do you like your XDSC9? My dad is looking at the .40 version for carry, but seems hesitant.

Yup, another AR. This time something a bit more practical:

    http://www.lewismachine.net/product.php?p=187&cid=12&session=e82aa57ac687d60d0bd41befd1d82ac1

I haven't had a chance to get the pics uploaded yet. There are a few sweet things about this platform, the first being that I can change out barrels with only two bolts to loosen, so I can go from a 10.5in barrel to an 18 or anywhere in between in a minute or so. Also, the upper on this starts as a 5lb chunk of aluminum that is then machined, so the receiver and quad rail forward are all one solid piece with a free floating barrel. I'll have a range report shortly, but I've heard nothing but good things about these rifles.

Very cool, I like it! Nothing like a AR rifle two pins and it will fit nicley in a duffle bag, swap the upper for different needs, and its easy to clean.

LMT makes great rifle. I am sure you will be more than happy with it. What size barrel came on the one you have?

16in barrel, which is perfect for what I want to do with it.

beautiful. They eliminated the slip ring. Fewer parts=less cleaning. I like that the rails sit further back as well - would let you mount a grip just in front of the mag well. Too many guys I know have caused stoppages at a high rate of fire from pushing on their magazine.

You gonna get some of the new lexan Magpull mags? We ran one over with a 7-ton, and after swapping out the follower and spring it was back in action. Spendy, but are FAR higher quality than the HK's.

I'm already running PMags with the window, I didn't realize they'd come out with lexan ones. I love mine, and I've heard great reviews from others who've had them in both combat and non combat conditions.

Hmm... i wonder who u got those from... by the way we do have a dpms carbine if u want to trade up again, lol...

We sell these.. very fun to just plink with (dont worry have like 4 ars as well 2 are colt .223, one dpms .204 and a dpms .233)

I have a Winchester 52D target rifle (close to mint, was my old competition gun), Winchester 75 target rifle (minty collector gun) both of which have been retired to the back of the safe since where i live now has no indoor range. Ruger 10/22 target (general plinking and small animal killing), Winchester 120 shotgun (birds, deer, pretty much everything), and Remington 870 riot shotgun (parents had a few from the state patrol, it's my defense/ when u really wanna have a challange shooting clays)... no pics as i havent even seen them in a few months, they are at my parents place back home, since i never shoot up here...

The rest of my families guns would take a while to take pics, lol... My parents own a gun shop and put on 5 gun shows a year... We have a wide variety, bunch of ars, aks, sks, kimbers.. also have a collection of .22 colt revolvers, also one of the largest collections of .22cal smoothbores in the country.. along with hunting guns, other collector stuff and all the for sale stuff in the shop...

^^^^^Do/can you guys order anything from Rock River Arms? I'm gonna be in the market for an upper at some point and I see they are taking orders again.

I just got a few PMags from the ups guy about a half hour ago as well as a new grip and trigger guard earlier in the week. Its coming along a little bit at a time.

I've also got a few hundred cabelas gift card/rebate cash things that need to be used by the end of the year. I'm thinking about something that'll work for carry purposes. Anyone have any suggestions for what to look/not look at(I know I'll see what works for ME) just putting together a short list.

looks good Brian! Whens the next official outing?

About time you found this thread. Yes, I bought the Gun from Bubbas Family's shop. I will probably buy most of my guns from them. It's always a fun trip to Fergus. I don't have $$ to get the DPMS at the moment.

Idk offhand, I don't make it around the shop much anymore since i moved away.. best thing to do is call Neigel Firearms (218) 736-2133.. the store hours are usually mon-thurs 2-7pm, but call anytime and either someone will be home and answer or leave a message and call you back...

A friend of mine, who is in the Marines, carries a Kimber 3" in .45 when he is back around home. He loves the gun and I can say that it is a great piece. The single stack makes it fairly thin, but still has decent weight. It is super accurate as well. Tight groups (as I would expect from a kimber) but he was also able to mark some paper at the 100yrd range at del-ton.

Otherwise the XD sub compact is a small gun, with good capacity (not something I would really consider for carry). They are super reliable as I am sure you know owning an XDm.

I would personally avoid the tiny guns like the Ruger LCrR (or whatever) in .380. Same goes for the magnum research equivalent as the way they are shaped it is relatively easy to have you second hand slip up and result in your off hand index finger in front of the barrel :eek3: .

    Thanks Ben!

I'm thinking we'll have to have an outing next month, I've got a few toys on the way for the new one and I'd like to get any kinks worked out before then. As far as a carry gun, I go back and forth between a Kimber TLE II (full size 1911 in .45ACP) and a Sig Sauer P229 in .357SIG. It usually depends on what I'm wearing, but the Sig usually is what you'll find me carrying. I don't trust my life to anything smaller than a 9mm. .357SIG isn't the most common round, but it's a hard hitter that will put down whatever you might encounter.

I would personally say 7.62x51 or good ol' 12ga. but the whole premise of the handgun (with the exception of the mk 23 mod 0) is to fight your way to a long gun or a friend with a long gun. In which case I am of the camp that .40 is fine but .45 is better. (.357Sig is an exception as it has very impressive energy that make it a match for a .40)

Believe me, I'm with you regarding the rifle/shotgun train of thought. With my carry permit I could even walk around with one slung over my shoulder but that would cause undue stress on the part of the general population and cause headaches for the local PD dispatchers and officers.

The current low end of the caliber range that most people will discuss is 9mm for defensive purposes. There are some 9mm loads out there that are readily available that are more than adequate for carry purposes. I love my .45, but my Sig has it beat in terms of capacity and stopping power. The Speer Gold Dots that are currently in the mag hit harder than my .45 would shooting +P ammo, something I won't run in my Kimber. I've shot both the .40 and the .357SIG, and I prefer the .357 round. .40 is a decent round, but I've never latched onto it like I have the .45ACP or .357SIG. The key to each is selecting the proper ammo for the application.

As far as rifle rounds, I have no problems trusting my life to 5.56x45. There are enough dead people out there to attest to it's lethality, especially with the new rounds that are coming on line. I'm still not sure I'd want to use one in a home defense situation, but if that's all I have then it's better than a sharp stick.

I'm liking your taste in guns. Think that your family could score me a deal on a Kimber Warrior? I've been wanting one of those for years. When did you get your 870? Mine is a former ND State Patrol gun as well, did you get it a couple of years ago when they updated?

quite possible I misread. I assumed they were made of lexan. Like I said, we had the tire of the Buffalo on top of it, with concrete underneath. Granted the internals were shot, it was amazing to see that it was still intact.

^ They have been doing promo videos of the standard P-mags with running them over with a 3/4 ton pickup and having them work just fine (internals are fine). Granted a 3/4 Chevy is far lighter than a Buffalo, but the idea is the same. They are very durable magazines.

The only issue I have ever had with my p-mags is that they were slightly too big for my magwell. I had to sand about 1/2 mil of of them to get them to slide in and drop out easily. annoying but worth it. I would buy more.

Also I think I am going to get out to the range to see if my AR is still FTEing. I cleaned and lubed it up super well, I am also bring out some ammo I know has worked well out of it before. I inspected the gas tube/bolt carrier interface incase the gas tube got tweaked but it doesnt look like it did.

Mine's MN St Partrol... we got like 10 of them a cpl years ago.. then we also got in like 14 glocks (all have been sold), and 5 of the FFPD's 870 magnum tacticals, with flashlights in the foregrip (all have been sold, dad kept one for himself).

I dont think we can order Kimber from the wholesaler (I think they are like Benelli and other manufacturers that are dealership type places, meaning u have to buy like $10-15k worth of product), but they could keep an eye out for used or if we stumble across some from another dealer... My dad absolutely loves Kimbers.. we have probably 5-10 of them, and he never gets rid of any of them, lol...

Alright, still no pictures yet from me. I'll try to have them up before Friday.

However, I did get the new rifle to the range last night. I've never had to wait at Bills until last night, both Circle Pines and Robbinsdale were packed with procrastinators getting their deer rifles sighted in. Needless to say there were a few raised eyebrows when I hauled it out. I've already replaced the iron sights with Magpul MBUS folding sights and the EoTech should be back on by Friday or so. I've got a Magpul B.A.D. lever on the way which should make it even easier to operate.

Once I got the rifle sighted in it was a joy to shoot. Robbinsdale isn't really far enough to be a real test, but sometimes it's fun punching paper without too much challenge. I forgot just how hot the barrels on these things can get, I had to let it sit for a good half hour or more to let it cool enough to put it back in the case. It operated almost flawlessly, I had a couple of issues where it wouldn't fully seat the bolt/round, but a quick tug on the charging handle fixed that. It was a minor hiccup, and wasn't repeated in the following 150 rounds or so. I'm chalking it up to it getting broken in, as it wasn't even at the 90 round mark at that point.

Cleaning this thing was a snap. Two bolts and the barrel is out and you can really get at the locking lugs for cleaning and lubing. It also makes cleaning the upper receiver a breeze. If you're looking for a rock solid AR platform, this is definitely one to look at, especially with the ease of caliber change. Two screws and a different bolt are all you need to switch from 6.8SPC to 5.56.

All of the reviews I've seen on it so far have been glowing. Personally, I like the ability to be able to lock the bolt back and maintain a firing grip. If you can find one (hint: Ebay has a few) I don't think you'll regret it. Magpul makes very solid stuff and I don't think you can go wrong with anything of theirs.

I didn't go look at the pictures again, but it has a push-forward-assist on the right hand side right?

PS, I should have mentioned this before you shot it, but there is a GREAT way to break in an AR/M4 platform that increases accuracy over the lifetime. After each of your first 10 rounds, run a lubricated bore snake through the barrel. Then, every 3 rounds for the next 15 or so. Then every magazine of 30. You can probably quite after two or three mags I'd think - I never asked. We do this with as many of the out of the box LRR's we get as possible. According to our armorers it increases MOA considerably over the life of the rifle. Just food for thought

I was trying the forward bolt assist but it wasn't quite doing the trick. It was hanging up about a half inch out from the locking lugs. All I had to do was pull back about a half inch and let it snap forward. I'll do the boresnake next time I head to the range and try that out. When are you coming home next?

I have heard similar about breaking in a new barrel. Although the method I have heard was clean after the 1st shot, then after every 3 for 15 rnds than after every 10 for 50 rnds than after every mag for a while ect... I think this helps more on standard (non-chromed) barrels.

I got my AR out to the range again to test out the FTE issue. It looks like my ejector is not functioning at 100% As the bolt cycles all the way back, and grabs the next round then chambers it before the previous case has completely cleared the chamber. So I need to look at taking apart the ejector or replacing it.

How many rounds are through the gun? You may just need to replace the extractor spring. I may be wrong (Jack, you're the resident expert on the AR platform here, jump in anytime) but it sounds like a weak extractor. What kind of shape is the bolt in? Might be a good time to upgrade your bolt, then you can just drop it in and go.

When I got home last night my B.A.D. lever was waiting in the mail. Not to sound like a Magpul fanboy, but they make some damn fine products. They include the small Torx wrench you need for installation, and it's one screw. That's it. It took 30 seconds to get it on, and it makes a huge difference in the ergonomics of reloading and doublefeed clearing. Jack, are you guys allowed to run these?

I also saw at walmart the other day that they had .223 (federal?) "value packs" 100 rndsfor 39 bucks. I didn't buy any and I don't know if its any good but it seems like about the cheapest non bulk price I've seen for a while.

The bag I found over at Streichers, it's a 5.11 bag that was on clearance. I highly recommend taking a look at their gear if you're looking for something that doesn't break the bank but will still do the job. It came with a double mag holder for free, and has the MOLLE webbing so you can attach additional gear. The digital camo pouch on the end is a Gerber Efect tool, it's an AR specific multitool. The bag has compartments for two guns, my Remington 870 fits perfectly into the other side and it's got storage space for ammo for both. It also can be carried like a backpack, so it's a great option for when you go to the range and might have other gear with you.

The two Torx heads in the front of the receiver are the two that are needed to remove the barrel. LMT includes a torque wrench so you can reattach the barrel properly. I replaced the stock LMT sights (which are top notch, BTW) with Magpul MBUS flip up sights as I'll be using an EOTech in the near future and a Trijicon ACOG sometime later on. And yes, I included the obligatory foot shot.

I found a used Mossberg 590A1 for a great price this morning that I couldn't pass up, it's on layaway at the moment but I'll have pictures when it comes home. That one is going to be a project gun for doing my own refinishing. More on that later...

The rifle has a Colt bolt in it. There are less than 1000 rounds through the gun since it was built. The extractor claw works perfect, everytime the bolt carrier cycles it grabs the old case and pulls it out. It just isnt popping the old case out of the receiver far/fast enough to prevent a jam. It could be the ejector spring being slow or goo'ed up, that is what I am going to look at next.

You should sell me your 870 than.

I'm keeping the 870, I've been wanting to do one of each for a while now. Plus the 590 is a 20in barrel, so it's an 8+1 capacity.

Hey Brian do you have a ballpark cost on that bag? Did you order online or go to the store? I've got a similar on but it only has one gun pouch area.

Now for the new goods:) SA XD sub-compact 40 S&W. I had a 175 dollar gift card credit thing from cabelas from when I bought my safe that needed to be used so I picked this up the other day.

^ nice purchase. Have you gotten a chance to get to the range with it yet? I am curious what your initial impressions are, nd how you think it stacks up against the XDm.

Ben, I got the bag for just under 50 bucks IIRC. It was on clearance so the price was around 50% off. Nice looking XD, btw!

I've got to get some pictures taken, but the LMT has gotten a few new accessories.

    To date:

    Magpul MBUS
    Magpul B.A.D lever
    EOTech 512 Rev F. holosight
    Surefire X400 Weaponlight/Laser
Smith Vortex Flash Suppressor (on the way)

There isn't really much else I can do to it at this point. There will be a 3 or 4x magnifier on the way at some point unless I ditch the EoTech and get an ACOG with a red dot on top.
