He might be going for a Major Power class instead of a Minor, .40S&W would bump him into that for (I think) IDPA. It's the same reason they have a Glock 34 in 9mm and a Glock 35 in .40S&W, Major vs. Minor power factor.

I'm just looking to get a head start should the car thingy don't workout. Hehe besides theses days everyone's looking for more horse power, right? Nah I'm just playing, I'm really just looking for a new challenge along same lines of my 9mm Pro. I've put some thought into getting another 9mm but it wouldn't make sense at this time. It would be a nice addition to my tiny collection to own a 40. I have 500 rds awaiting for her arrival.

The truth is I want to do a much as possible while I can when I can. Who knows I could lose interest tomorrow or pick up parkinson. Thanks for the input guys, really looking forward to our next range event.

I can identify with that philosophy. It's why I sometimes eat dessert first. You just never know ;)

This is probably out of left field, but is anybody tracking on if Sig sorted out their manufacturing issues on the 226 and 229? I'd love to get one, but they are tricky enough to find at all, much less pre-2008 models that haven't been shot to hell.

I've heard that they've been taking steps, but what said steps have been I'm not sure. I'm still not sure I trust them enough to go buy a new one.

Jack, take a hard look at the HK45/P30/P2000 series. I think you'll be very happy with them.

What good is it when you go to draw your gun and you can't find it because it's all camo'ed out?

All of my guns are bright green for that very reason.

    I love the M1A models, but when I go .308 it'll be a SCAR 17.

Just have to figure out which kidney to sell in order to fund it....

^^^I'd have better luck with the kidney sale than saving that kinda money! I'm not patient enough to save past a grand or so. That and Katie would stab me in the kidney if she found out I was selling it for a gun:(

Speaking of .308 that Ruger GSR intrigues me. I'm not sure why I'd need or want it but it's just kinda cool.
    http://ruger.com/products/gunsiteScoutRifle/models.html

But I'm still dreaming of a lever gun in 44 or .357 to go with our revolvers. Uughhh I hate being stuck between car/gun/million other hobbies guy and responsible, think towards the future, homeowner, husband guy.

    I feel your pain Ben.

My next three most wanted firearms are as follows:

    SCAR 17
    Heckler and Koch HK45 fullsize
    Marlin 1895SBL in .45-70

    Too many hobbies...too little money.

^^^The FNAR is supposed to be dandy but still a bit video gamey for me. I'm having a hard time with loving classic stuff and the fact that the new funky stuff is in most cases "better" That's what got me liking the Ruger, it's like grandpas bolt action with just a little bit of modern style. Oh well I'm not actively shopping now anyways, and should the SHTF I'm still probably more prepared than most people.;)(I hope)

Other than my 10/22, I won't be giving Ruger any of my money. They did enough damage to gun owners back in '94 and with support of legislation since that I just can't justify it.

Savage makes some really nice bolt action stuff, and the Remington 700 is the gold standard. You could always get a 700 action and build that up into something fun ;)

Yeah I did that with the first gun and the second and third, fourth fifth etc................the safe, the bulk ammo, the second cabinet for ammo:D I suppose if I asked Katie she'd think the responsible thing would to get a third "guard" dog. It's a vicious circle.

Went to the gun fair thingy in Little Falls today, bumped into Chong briefly while waiting to shoot something(I'll let him share what may have/have not gone home with him:) ). I didn't buy anything from the event but my father in law did, so I picked up the one he was replacing. It's my first Kimber.

It was really nice to see you out there pal. We got there 20 mins before they opened and got a chance to speak with the reps and as a result we were first in line to test out a bunch of guns along with some pretty amazing riffles and shot guns, yes we're new to the sport. I put a few rounds thru the new M&P Shield 9mm and I really liked it a lot for CC but will give it some time and let some of the dust settle down before deciding to proceed.

I had placed a XDM .40 5.25" on hold prior to this event after find out Reese had 4 in stock at an amazing price by coincidence and then they told me about this event and it saved like over $200 and 3hrs of road trip up to Walker, MN. I decided it would be in my best interest to putting a few rounds thru the XDM .40 & 9mm 5.25 thru it's places I then handed the pistol to my boss and she approved. I was surprised she liked it and the bigger caliber. So it was a done deal. After watching the Pro's shows of Patrick Flanigan - Mossberg, Gould's Brothers and Tom Knapp we went and picked up the new toy and headed home. We got to shoot clay pigeons for the very first time and now she talking about shooting clay and hunting.

Anyways, from what I've heard there's suppose to be another one this summer. I've decided I won't waste my time going down to Bill's annual Gun Show when you can do this instead.

Isn't Tom Knapp the speed shooter that shoots clays? I think that i saw him on Sons of Guns a few episodes ago. Ten handthrown clays in ten shots ftw!

Here's what I've learned from this morning's testing. After warming up with the Neos .22 and then put the M&P 9mm Pro head to head with the newly acquired XDm .40 5.25" Pro I found that I can shoot better with the XDm.

I tried several tests at various distances. 15ft, 25ft, 50ft and full length of the range using my 6" targets. I tried shooting with just my right eye and then with both. Basically I was able to dial in the XDm much quicker everything from 15ft to down the range length. I think I was able to do this for several reasons even though I've been told differently:
    1. My M&P 9mm slide has more play in it then the XDm .40
    2. My the XDm has a cleaner trigger break not upsetting the shot
    3. The red sights help engage your sight picture much quicker.

I had brought flat head screw driver along just incase I needed to make any changes to the rear sight but ended up not needing it. I'm thinking about carrying her around for a little while lol.:smoke:

I loved the XDm 5.25 9mm that i rented at Bill's! The fiber optic red sight is definitely easy to aim with. I am planning on getting one for my 4.5 which came with white dots...but they are speeeeeendy! Glad that you enjoyed it Cheech. I've been spending all of my time at the range focusing on one target at a time...i think it's about time that i practice some transitioning.

The frame to slide fit won't affect anything. Any newer gun, especially a polymer framed one is going to have a fair amount of play between the slide and frame. This is done to improve reliability in case foreign objects (mud, sand, etc) find their way into the pistol. What matters is the slide to barrel lockup, and there won't be any play there. If there were, you'd notice because the pistol would likely go to pieces catastrophically when you pulled the trigger. You can compare any modern polymer pistol and find play between the frame and slide.

I would say the improvement is likely due to the trigger, the M&P isn't known for having a great trigger. They're decent for a duty/carry gun, but there are improvements that can be made. I really need to get an Apex kit into mine and see what else I can do to improve the feel. The HK45c is reminding me why I prefer hammer fired over striker fired guns. The trigger on it is damn near perfect.

I hear ya, I was doing some testing and tried really hard to be consistent and find a happy medium. I've found that some of the follow up trigger breaks are clean. But what baffles me is some shots are moving between left and right without making any type of changes as minute as the slide play is I really think it has some effect on my results.

I have a lot better grip on the gun now and from practicing with training rounds at home I can see the trigger break is causing minor vertical movements and not horizontal. Who knows it could just be my imagination from breathing in too much gun powder. ;)

Horizontal movements are typically caused by either too much or too little finger on the trigger. How much of a left/right shift are you seeing?

That's within tolerances, it could just be a minor shift on the trigger or possibly the ammo. A 1-2in shift isn't much to worry about, especially at that distance.

Here's a side by side view, I went ahead and highlighted the letter's and logo on the XDm after getting permission from my youngest son lol. So far I've been very happy with the new addition and the best part is it fits into the same holster.

Picked this up on Saturday. The GF and I hit the range on Sunday. So much fun.

    That is awesome.

I'm a bit conflicted by it, I've come around on Glock pistols in the last couple of years. A good 1911 is a thing of beauty to shoot though.

Sorry, but Glocks always have felt weird in my hands. 1911 however was a perfect fit. I could not be happier with my Springer.

    Now onto the next thing....

Does anyone have any input on these guys? Both are working their way up my buy list....
